  • No one actually needs a 4 bed 3 bath house with a 3 car garage and backyard with pool and storage for a bunch of different hobbies, tools and equipment.

It’s just a wasteful use of resources and literally killing the planet because people aspire to this level of consumption.

Very few are ready to have a conversation about what is actually required to avert climate catastrophe.

Even fewer are prepared to give up the things required to actually avert climate catastrophe.

I watched it, interesting video and accessible approach to the topic.

I couldn’t help but walk away from the video thinking about how many kids enter STEM/non-social science degrees at college and get to fully fledged adulthood before the realisation that social science is pretty fucking important and touches every aspect of our lives.

I probably have a chip on my shoulder because of how much everyone shits on social science as a low paid/dead end career but it’s upsetting an astrophysicists opinions about social science seems to be taken more seriously than an actual social scientist (this is more based on her previous video about gravity being a social construct but a lot of social science constructs are weaved into the Fermi paradox video as well).

I have no doubt there are therapeutic applications for hallucinogens and psychedelics just as much as there are recreational uses for those drugs as well.

My contention is really directed at those who think these are some kind of out of body spiritual hack to “unlock” knowledge.

It smacks of Joe Rogan nonsense.

I really object to this idea that hallucinogens unlock some kind of higher plane of existence that can’t be experienced by people who don’t do these drugs.

If it were true that people who did hallucinogens did gain some kind of additional knowledge why is it they aren’t achieving things at some obviously higher rate?

If you want to use recreational or therapeutic drugs be my guest, just don’t come back telling me you’ve uncovered the secrets to the universe…
