  • Scoot’s first few games were historically bad. It lent support to the vocal minority who had made a well supported case that he was not close to being the prospect he was hyped up to be (ie undersized point guard, not good at shooting in offense friendly g league, not nearly as athletic as advertised based on footage and statistics). Then he sprained his ankle. He just got back and played his first game where they had him come off the bench to face second stringers but he still looked really bad. None of this is to say he won’t ever be good. But he was said to be the most nba ready prospect and while he’s only played a few games his struggles have been so severe that it goes well beyond typical rookie struggles. he doesn’t look anywhere close to being an NBA player and if there wasn’t so much draft capital invested into him and it was a second round pick playing like this they’d probably already be sent to g league by now

  • It’s only been two games, so it is still early. But it is difficult not to be alarmed by what we’re watching. He looks so bad it is borderline unprecedented. And even worse – Scoot was supposed to be “the most NBA ready” of any player in the draft.

Even if Scoot improves 50% by the end of the season this will still be an unmitigated disaster. Scoot may end up as a cautionary tale. There have been warnings that going from h.s. to g league does not provide that structure young players need to properly develop And if Cronin chased a first ballot Hall of Famer out of town for this, he will never work in basketball again.
