  • I want to second your advice here and tell anyone thinking about it to just jump in. A basic Lodge 10" cast iron skillet will show up at discount stores occasionally (like tj maxx and ross or whatever, got mine there for cheap) but you could definitely look at thrift/donation stores as well. Also make sure to peep garage sales!

Keep in mind it’s a big hunk of iron. Meaning, if you screw things up somehow, it’s really easy to just reset. Start from zero, re-season in the oven (my preferred method) or however you want. Does it suck to have to start over in terms of seasoning? Sure, but that’s learning, and the pan will let you do it as many times as you need to, over and over and over.

I have seen pans restored to being usable after discovery as a rust lump in the woods. They can really take a beating. That’s their best feature imo and it’s really not talked about enough. They’re basically impossible to actually ruin beyond the point of recovery. It’s awesome!!! Just don’t try to rinse it in cold water while it’s piping hot and you’ll be fine lmao. Wait for the pan to cool just a bit, still warm but not playing hot potato. Wash with gentle soap and a sponge, dry well and apply oil immediately. That’s it.

  • Oh definitely. The way I use language changes drastically based on the situation. I try to avoid it as much as I can - which means I still end up using them plenty often enough lol. And that’s the biggest culprit right there, appending ‘lol’ in text to come across more agreeable/chill.

I do find it interesting how the filler words differ between generations. Lowkey I mix slang from millenials, gen z, and just a splash of gen x. Whatever suits the scenario and my mood :D

  • He decided he had to make it someone else’s problem by needing to be let in, instead of simply affecting only himself (and you unfortunately). Bad decisions on my part should never be imposed on anyone else. And if more others behaved that way, we’d all have less problems.

We don’t need a sorry horn. We in the states need a significantly higher barrier to people getting and keeping a license. Cars are a privilege not a right and people should be reminded of that.

  • I’ve never actually had a group to play with, but I have some advice just from the standpoint of group dynamics. It sounds like they have good intentions and poor execution; they want you to have a good time playing the game, so they try to point out pitfalls to avoid. (Edit to say maybe their intentions are selfish but I have better results generally when I assume good intentions). Unfortunately, they’re forgetting/not realizing that making mistakes to learn how a game works is actually more fun than just being given a complete guide. Maybe tie it back to the DM’s themes (mystery/exploration/the unknown) to make it stick better. Speaking of which, there’s nothing wrong with wanting something different; I would just be prepared to tell them what exactly that is. From their end, it can suck to be told your ideas aren’t fun without an alternative, but they need to understand everyone has different tastes.

If you want to stick around, I would try to approach things from that angle. I wouldn’t mention your feeling of holding the group together, it’s not likely to garner positive feelings (I think). Let them bring that up if they want, then address it.

Hope it goes well for you!

  • “What if things could be different?” Or some variation thereof. Sounds like whoever you’re talking to is, unfortunately, neck-deep in the propaganda. They might not even have the concept of a different system that could actually work. A lot of people are conditioned to believe anarchy=chaos, I would try to talk about successful mutual aid projects in your city. “What if ‘x’ program could impact even more people? Why not?” I think my goal at first would be to change their association with some core concepts, so they don’t instinctively recoil.

Sorry I don’t have more than that, this is a tough one that I’ve never really figured out myself. Interested to see what others say.

Edit: you might also be starting off too big/dramatic? Like yeah I agree capitalism is fundamentally evil, but for someone who’s never even played with the concept before, it can feel too huge to even approach, hence “i have to work”. Maybe try attacking smaller pieces/more specific aspects of capitalism. “Damn, it’s fucked up that blackrock just gets to buy as many houses as they can when people are struggling to pay rent.”
