Welcome to the open social web!

I try to do it within 24 hours, but I wait for folks to verify their accounts as well. It’d usually just me, so I have to do real life, but I get alerted and try to adoptive ASAP.

I’m a Small Social Specialist ( new title I’m testing out ) so I’m happy to help you install Peertube if/when you need.

If you’re running a Peertube you can use my public index generated from the script here: https://ptindex.btfree.org/

Here’s the script I created: https://git.btfree.org/BTFree/PTIndex

It’s not great, but it works. :-D

I’m currently running TubeFree.org, backed by my public charity BT Free (btfree.org).

I do not agree you should put someone on the largest instance with the most reach. There’s a LOT of terrible shit out there. I personally set up a script that reaches out to certain servers I trust, gets their follows, and I follow them. I call it a chain of trust. I think Peertube is working towards implementing this as well.

But honestly, I think the best way, run your own. Or I’d be happy to help you set one up. That way you can have your community, you can pull things in from servers you want to federate with, etc. I honestly think small local communities that interconnect are the way to go. You control the content, you set your own rules, etc.

Thank you! :) Any recommendations of folks or volunteer yourself?

I know of podman, used it, it’s not the drop in replacement for Docker that Red Hat says it is. I have no clue about quadlets and at this point, I’m not even interested in learning. :D lol

Oh! Awesome! You made my day! That’s exactly what I was going for! :) That’s such a wonderful compliment. I REALLY appreciate it.

The show is on Apple. I had to change it since I changed hosts. I’ve never used Apple stuff, but it says it’s syncing.

Maybe try this one? https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/fireside-fedi/id1848107686

Thank you so much for listening. :) You have a bunch of awesome guests to catch up on now! :D

That’s awesome! Thanks for contributing to piefed. :) And I’m sure Rimu is open to any docker suggestions as he’s fumbling through it like I am. :D

I think that’s when I moved hosts. I did have it hosted on Fireside Fedi on a Peertube, but I started a Public Charity called BT Free and it’s hosting tubefree.org and I moved it there. https://tubefree.org/@firesidefedi if you’re interested. :) Sorry about that. I really fumbled that move.

Thank you for kind words. :) Appreciate it very much. Helps me get over my imposter syndrome. :D

NodeBB is the answer. NodeBB bridges the Fediverse and Threadiverse. It allows conversations from all sides.

I will state though that this is the goal of the Fediverse. It shouldn’t matter which software you use. You should still be able to engage in a conversation no matter where you are. And we’re getting there. :)

This sounds like a breakage in the way that Friendica and Lemmy interact. I’d report it as a bug on both sides, see if you can get folks to work towards figuring out a way to resolve it.

The different Fediverse software implement things in their interpretation and sometimes there’s a divide that can be resolved. :)

Run a Peertube.

I always laughed at this. The difference here Tim is you can VOTE and make your voice heard with the US and democracy. Microsoft has a monopoly. They don’t care as long as they get enough users to buy in, it’s financially viable to them and they force it on everyone. But hey, what do I know, I’ve been a Linux user since 2007 and I’ve been SHOCKED at what people would put up with on their PC and Microsoft’s Windows.

It’s been amazing and I feel completely unqualified lol. But incredible to meet everyone.

Yes. This. Big Tech has taught folks that there’s only ONE place to sign up. We have to help folks realize, and undo the damage, of centralization. And that’s going to be a very personal and community minded idea. We shouldn’t be going up to everyone and yelling “SIGN UP TO MASTODON!” Because we’ll get “how?” And the answer will be mastodon.social. Instead we need to find groups, let’s say your local gaming group and say “hey I set up this thing that allows us to talk about our local gaming group and OH YEAH it connects to all this other cool shit btw.”

I know lots of folks look at this and see a shattering of the what they expect. The Fediverse is NOT a platform. Lemmy.world is NOT the Threadiverse. Let’s break these bonds. I left a server because I was suspected of being a CIA plant. I went to one that was more welcoming. I found they were too strict for me on their rules. I left that. I’m not on piefed.social. I’m planning on running my own piefed for ME and MY family/friends hopefully SOON^TM. If someone defederates from me, that’s ok, they didn’t want me to be a part of their community. MY community still exists.

These aren’t platforms that are out there trying to save the entire world. They’re building a community that interconnects to other communities. Don’t like how they’re doing it, you can literally spin up your own for dollars per month.

Yes, if you want your stuff to be found you have to advocate for it.

I think the Trek communities are stand outs of how this works and how it should be done. Think of like old Forum days. Normally folks would create a forum for a specific topic and other thigns would go other places. But now those forums connect and you can run your own and connect to everyone.

Break this idea that this major pillars disconnecting are fracturing the fediverse. IMO the more small instances we have the stronger the network.

So build a Piefed/Lemmy/Mastodon/GoToSocial/Bonfire whatever for your community and then allow those to connect out to others.

The idea of this change is scary though. And maybe I’m wrong. Maybe we can’t exist the way I hope we do. But I think humans strive for community and communication and we have a new way to provide it to them.

I think there’s a fundamental misunderstanding still of how the Fediverse works.

Any instance, mastodon.world for instance, is NOT Mastodon itself. Mastodon is JUST the software that was chosen. Each instance is allowed their own rules. Each community is allowed their own rules within the instance. If you get banned, think of it more that someone has asked you to leave their home and doesn’t want you there.

We have to get away from these ideas of that every instance of Mastodon or Lemmy or whatever completely reflects the entire Fediverse.

This comes with a big caveat. I think the world still sees us this way. And I think we HAVE to do a better job of, “This is a platform and if you’re banned you’re gone.” Instead we should help folks understand, if you’re kicked off an instance, there are a dozen others. There is a community for everyone. Hell, run your own or ask and folks can run one for you.

I will 100% disagree with a LOT of folks on a LOT of issues and I’d never want to host socials for the majority of folks. BUT I will absolutely defend your right to exist on the Fediverse and even help you, to a point, set up your own instance. But everyone needs to be mindful, that those places can and will still ban you. But you can at least get your message out to your community.

I don’t know what was said as I don’t speak German. I also don’t know why he was banned. But that is .world’s right to eject anyone from their community they don’t want. If the person decides to leave and not come back at all, that really sucks. But they also have the right to start their own community and continue interacting.

I’ve banned someone from TubeFree.org. I’ve blocked folks. I’ve refused to allow someone to create an account on TubeFree.org. Am I censoring someone? Maybe, but I’m attempting to build a specific community.

I’d absolutely LOVE to see any of these big instances have communities start their own instance. We shouldn’t have monoliths in the fediverse. The more diverse the network, the better. Honestly I’m trying to help communities run their own for their own community. I’ve even been talking with folks and attempting to work with folks on a spin up your own image to run from a business or home that is plug and play.

We NEED people to run their own, control their data, manage this themselves. We’re not there yet, but I honestly think someday we will be and everyone will just have a presence on the Fediverse. A community blocks you? You won’t even notice because YOU control YOUR digital identity.

I don’t like racing games.
I never wanted to be child Anakin podracing.
When I originally saw this game all those years ago I thought it was a dumb idea.

I LOVED THE HELL OUT OF THIS GAME!
It was just FUN. Period. They didn’t attempt to justify it. They didn’t even really attempt to balance it. Once you upgraded your pod a bit you could do back to easier tracks and SMOKE everyone. Just dumb fun. Loved it.

Hi Reginald. Don’t look so crabby!

Thank you! :-). Best of luck for the next one.

Always seemed like an interesting games to me. I’ll take it is you have no other offers.
