2·11 days agoHow large is the backup? Could be useful for some, most is installable via dpkg/apt IIRC
Depends mostly on the CPU “TDP” (even tho nowadays the TDP is not an actual power limit) and size of heatsink, check out Streacom passive cases for example.
But the essential part in a pc is the heatsink, before the cpu fan (or any fan).

F-Droid@lemmy.ml•File manager that can select a range of files (does not work in Material Files?)
3·16 days agoUpdate: both Fossify Gallery and Fossify File Manager can do this! Just found out :) you select the first image(long press) then long press the last image of the group, it selects them all
Mm basically Ctrl + Shift + select but on a phone.
Not a real solution but a couple of workarounds with Material Files:
-
if part of the filename matches (like photos taken during 2026-02) you can search then “Select all”;
-
turning on its FTP server than managing from a pc
Real solution would be a file manager with advanced search, that can filter by date range for example.

In general I agree with your POV, I always say people to use all the words they know with me, curse words included when they need them. But personally I’m into etymology because it gives me a sense of ownership of a word, if I know the old meaning hidden inside (or sometimes very different from) the current meaning, I can use a word exactly as it was intended. Or I’m just a nerd lol

This is it for me, I might have to try a bigger phone to fill those time gaps productively. I encounter the same situation as OP, and if they can’t easily carry A4 paper as they said they probably can’t use a tablet…
What I hate about newish phones is the thin aspect ratio, and foldables are not robust enough yet to my liking :/
I love that M.C. Escher collage

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•English as a second language learners: what words were really hard for you to pronounce?
2·3 months agoAccording to the Macmillan they are [ˈsʌt(ə)l] vs [ˈsæd(ə)l], so the vowel changes slightly, but it depends on the speaker; I’m not native but I say saddle with a more open “a”. But they’re otherwise almost identical to me (in the British pronunciation included in the dictionary I hear a “t” both times, in the American one a “d” both times - which is how I say it too)

For some, but it’s complicated :D Found this really good wiki article tho: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_the_Romani_people
Gypsy originally (at least in the 16th century) meant Egyptian, “from the supposed origin of the people” (which was a wrong supposition ofc) https://www.etymonline.com/word/Gypsy
Most words arriving from an outside group (exonyms) were often “wrong” as in they were born out a limited POV or a misconception, I still can’t find it in me to label them as objectively offensive especially when they are still pervasive in the modern language for referring to a people. I like this quote from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_of_Germany
