  • Some people on here need to lower the bar on what’s considered ‘great’. A photo isn’t great only if it wouldn’t look out of place in Ansel Adams’ portfolio. You don’t have to cook a meal to Alain Ducasse’s standards to make it great. You don’t have to paint something to the same standards as Da Vinci to make it great. Photography is no different.

It’s great if you’re proud of it and want to do something with it/show it off to others.

  • Some people spend waaaay too much time trying to have a ‘style’ and impose it across all images to make them feel different.

If that works, fine, and if you’re a good pro it likely does work and that’s what you’re paid for. If not, just do what you think looks best. At the end of the day if you’re not a pro then part of the reason could be that your ‘style’ doesn’t sell. So the only way to find the way that does is to keep experimenting with different styles until you hit gold.

At the end of the day 90% of your style is composition, and that extra 10% will be unlikely to be noticed by anyone except other pros.

  • Travel photographers is becoming a thing but not in the way you think judging by your post. People are not going to fly out a photographer with them (unless they’re super rich, and even then it’s quite intrusive).

Instead what is happening is people are looking for local photographers in the destinations they visit more than used to happen. They’ll fly out to their destination and then find a local photographer. I did this myself this summer and absolutely loved it. It was so lovely and refreshing to hire someone else for a few hours to take photos of the whole family including me in a much more relaxed and different setting to what we’d get at home. The results were amazing, as it was a local who knew the area really well.

If you’re serious about doing this I’d suggest focussing on getting to know your local area, and what the best spots are in the eyes of a tourist, and become an expert at taking good photos there. You’re never going to get better results than a local pro just rocking up and taking photos. And the supply of people willing to fly you out will be tiny
