Makes me sad that I know exactly what you mean, this new glass shit has me nervously eying the Linux door.

The paper thing stopped being true in the past year around here. Name brand paper towels are now so thin, store brand is thicker at half the price. Q-Tips don’t have the same cardboard in the middle, less cotton Kroger brand is closer to the old q-tips (but still a step down from what I grew up with).
Toilet paper is basically a toss-up, the nicer store brands are about comparable to the non-specialty name brands now. For the extra strong or extra soft, name brand still wins, but it’s changing.
Yeah and a lot of it was on the part of women. Why do we assume putting up a female candidate will make women inspired? A lot of them believe the role belongs to a man - enough to fuck a party over. So will we keep virtue signaling by putting women candidates in front of the same electorate?
I often feel this way and my inner-angry-atheist called the shots for years, but so many of us have done this, and we’ve formed a bubble thinking angry atheism is spreading and it’s not. In reality we’ve just ceded the most important debates, the ones that morality can be baked into - LGBT rights, immigrant rights, death penalty, etc - leaving the left without the support we need to win in these arenas.
If you really want progressive ideals to win, drop the attitude about religion, run the other way - embrace religious progressives, support progressive faith communities, and watch as we start winning elections again.
I ordered a laptop from BB for an executive at work, they tried delivering it on a Saturday and texted me about it, offered to deliver elsewhere instead, so I’m like, sure bring it to my house. Then when they get there, it’s a third party delivery service (not Doordash but like it) - woman and her boyfriend - hat out looking for a tip. Umm I didn’t ASK for some weird tip-based delivery service, I thought they were UPSing that shit. I can’t put tips on my corporate card, for laptop delivery fees?! So I looked like the asshole after they booked it across town. Haven’t ordered from Best Buy again, what a terrible customer experience.
And yet it would still leave the edges of bird shit on my car
The casino makes more money when everyone is forced to use it as a bank!
It took decades for the computer revolution to become the personal computer revolution and businesses could adapt workflows and build out new ways to spend their R&D money (remember this was all back when stock buybacks were illegal, so companies were still investing in themselves) to fill the headcounts. It’s taken mere months for generative AI to upend businesses and schools, destroying entire professions. I do not see the two as being highly comparable.
Look at what’s going on with the Trump phone. Obvious lie, media doesn’t even dig into it. Trump gets the headline and the win. As seems to happen every time, the media is back to loving him again. I have a feeling things to this new wall-to-wall flattering coverage, his approval rating is actually gonna start inching up again. And this is made my faith in America completely evaporate.
Ummm this article is either old or this has happened multiple times now and I am really not going to investigate further myself because I want to go to bed unsad tonight.
I loved working most days until 12 or 1 in the office, coming home and refocusing on “my” part of my workday. Just enough office, not too much. Sadly now I am glued into a windowless room with a camera on me. Major dissatisfaction, huh.
We did two group shroom trips with my friend who died of cancer earlier this month. They did help with the weight and anxiety of it, I think for all of us. But it only softened the blow a bit, took some of the edge off and allowed us to focus more in the remaining months on new experiences and thoughts rather than ruminating.
They tried ketamine a few times on his deathbed but I think he was on too much morphine to benefit from that.
I told them their “MEN DON’T POST HERE” posts on the frontpage are hostile, which is the reaction they got from a half dozen folks who were talking about the subject. I talked about my experience as a gay man, wanting more community here on Lemmy, but that I wouldn’t start communities or threads saying “NO STRAIGHT PEOPLE POST HERE” to do it. And I pointed out their community has decided there are only two ways to deal with it.
I get that I broke their rule, and I can be banned there for that - but they didn’t ban me for being a man, they banned me for hurting their feelings.
And now I can’t use LGBTQ and Trans communities as a result. OK, fuck turtlesareneat, he shouldn’t be allowed in queer communities cause he hurt a mod’s feelings.

The hypothetical way to do it is severely penalize companies within California that pay federal tax. Make it so financially burdonsome they have to relocate or stop paying federal tax of their own accord. This is just what’s been suggested before when this has come up.
No they’re talking the wealth of the 1%, which is not the infrastructure of the US.
I pretend (in a non-grotesque sort of way) that the other person is “dead” to me and that I could “summon” them with a “seance” (text) but it’d be terribly unnatural and there’d be an awful price to pay.
Basically if I make my breakup Practical Magic, it helps somehow heh
They got the headline they wanted.
They did in this case, too.
Trump still playing the media like a fiddle.
Parenting books were serious business, whole generations were raised with Dr Spock for instance, who had fucked up ideas about childrearing.
It’s one thing to ask for tips on getting a baby to sleep, it’s another to ask it for formula recipes. Unfortunately I doubt most parents know the line where it becomes dangerous, but I am hoping here.
