I’m in the US. This is New Zealand. I’m less concerned about the health care situation. I assume it’s superior to ours.

I have questions about the pool party though.
It seems like it must’ve been far more than just a pool party, since self surgery felt like a better option than not going

It was removed because a mod or someone thought it was transphobic.
While I disagree, I can see why someone would misunderstand what I was saying.
I myself didn’t fully understand what I was thinking. But after using my one week ban to analyze my own thoughts on the article, I’m going to make one more attempt to articulate them. Hopefully I’ll do a better job this time.

The long wait times or high expense for surgery, is a problem that effects many trans people in New Zealand.
The dysphoria is something they all deal with.

Using those two issues that trans people have in common, as a complete explanation for this guys quite uncommon attempt at self surgery, seems obviously incomplete to me. This guy did something unusual. It seems likely, there’s an equally unusual aspect to it. To me, that would be worth exploring. But both the article, and everyone here as far as I’ve read, seems content to simply assume that these common experiences are enough to explanation his uncommon decision.

I’d like to see more from us.
