The Italians just can’t catch a break from the players to the national team.

It’s wild to now read a bunch of “He was never that good anyway” after all the drama/hype when the transfer got confirmed this summer.

He may not be a world class player but he’s still a very good midfielder. Is it just because he didn’t live up to the insane hype he got when he was a teenager?

Pretty sure he was anointed as signing of the window after his debut vs Villa… feels a long time ago, now

Unpopular opinion (maybe?): there is nothing unethical about betting your own team to win outright. Playing a spread or for a draw or any other prop bet you can influence is unethical, but betting on yourself to do your job doesn’t seem the same.

I know it’s illegal and immoral because of that, but is there anything inherently immoral about betting that your club will WIN? I mean, if he bet on loosing, ties, yellow cards, minutes where the goal is scored, etc. But winning? That’s basically what he’s paid to do.

If he has a higher financial incentive on a specific game, he may take a tactical red card that he otherwise wouldn’t have for one example

I know the issues with managers betting on their teams to win is that they may use players up to get a win, that they otherwise wouldn’t have, at the cost of future games.

But I’m struggling to see where a player might have an issue.

This reminds me of the Adrian Mutu situation with Chelsea. It’ll be interesting to see what Newcastle does with him/his contract.
