I ordered a Timex to be a counter to my G-Shock (penniless quartz gang) and I’m very glad to have done so. It turns out the watch has basically no visual deficiencies - simple watchface design does a great job and it’s printed nicely. It also feels very robust and tight for a quartz watch. I’m pretty sure I will be wearing it more often than I initially expected to.

The ticking really is thunderous though. I didn’t know about it and it is the first thing I noticed - after owning a G-Shock and an automatic watch it really is heard. I don’t mind as I’ve grown up with those loud, cheap $10 quartz wall clocks around, but the sound is genuinely like one of those, just sized down. It’s actually a bit amazing, almost like a feature 🤭

The strap is nice as long as it is fairly new, but I feel like this watch is perfect for a nato strap which I’m going to order soon. It should work with leather as well, feels pretty universal on that front.

A genuine 8.5/10 from me (in terms of quartz watches), and considering the price probably a 9.5 (the ticking being the -0.5). I can see myself paying double the price for this watch and not feeling ripped off to be honest.

Man, I really love the design of some Timex models - like this one. Unfortunately, the loud ticking is a absolute no go for me. If they’d fix that…well you know.

It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. One of their taglines is “It takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’”

If you don’t mind the chronograph version, that version is much quieter by all accounts I’ve seen.

This is also true of the Timex weekender, 3 hand = loud and chronograph = quiet.

I gotta say, the ticking on a Timex is one of the draws for me- it’s kind of a sign of the brand. I don’t wear one all the time but when I do put one on, it always feels alive in an old-fashioned way, if that makes any sense. My dad’s Timex ticked, my grandad’s Timex ticked, and so does mine. It’s got that nostalgia factor.
