I ordered a Timex to be a counter to my G-Shock (penniless quartz gang) and I’m very glad to have done so. It turns out the watch has basically no visual deficiencies - simple watchface design does a great job and it’s printed nicely. It also feels very robust and tight for a quartz watch. I’m pretty sure I will be wearing it more often than I initially expected to.
The ticking really is thunderous though. I didn’t know about it and it is the first thing I noticed - after owning a G-Shock and an automatic watch it really is heard. I don’t mind as I’ve grown up with those loud, cheap $10 quartz wall clocks around, but the sound is genuinely like one of those, just sized down. It’s actually a bit amazing, almost like a feature 🤭
The strap is nice as long as it is fairly new, but I feel like this watch is perfect for a nato strap which I’m going to order soon. It should work with leather as well, feels pretty universal on that front.
A genuine 8.5/10 from me (in terms of quartz watches), and considering the price probably a 9.5 (the ticking being the -0.5). I can see myself paying double the price for this watch and not feeling ripped off to be honest.
I really wish they made this model for kids, but I just found the “my first scout” from Timex and think I’ll try a couple of those. My kids love listening to my watches tick, and I want them to have their own.
Man, I really love the design of some Timex models - like this one. Unfortunately, the loud ticking is a absolute no go for me. If they’d fix that…well you know.
If you don’t mind the chronograph version, that version is much quieter by all accounts I’ve seen.
This is also true of the Timex weekender, 3 hand = loud and chronograph = quiet.
It’s not a bug, it’s a feature. One of their taglines is “It takes a lickin’ and keeps on tickin’”
I gotta say, the ticking on a Timex is one of the draws for me- it’s kind of a sign of the brand. I don’t wear one all the time but when I do put one on, it always feels alive in an old-fashioned way, if that makes any sense. My dad’s Timex ticked, my grandad’s Timex ticked, and so does mine. It’s got that nostalgia factor.
So my dad is a collector of rolexes… hes in landscaping… hes one of the most premeire landscape companies in town and hes a preacher on sundays… he works on multimillion dollar homes… and he wears this exact timex at work and while hes preaching in front of congrigation… he buys em out when he goes to walmart he loves em so much… so that is a good watch…
Overall looks neat but the placement of that date window is 😵💫
I didn’t even see that it had a date window until seeing this comment lol
It’s so alike the 13–24 small hour numerals it’s an almost deceitful design. For some reason I have no problem with it on the Junghans Max Bill but I just don’t like it here. Might be me being prejudiced against Timex but I hope it’s not that.
I loved this watch. Bought one on sale for 25 a few years back. Was working on my truck the day after it arrived and the crown caught on something and the entire pinion ripped out. Well , that sucks but at least it wasn’t expensive. Bought another one since the sale was still going on. Two weeks later, ripped the pinion out getting ready to go for a walk with my dog. It caught on his leash when he was excitedly jumping around.
After that I gave up on buying them as I was clearly cursed. Saved the straps though, they work so well on my Hamilton Khaki Fiel mechanical.
I can see why you went with the strap!
Sorry to hear about your curse.
I’ve had this watch for 7 or 8 years. Same strap, and worn regularly. Still in great shape and never changed the battery
I have this watch in a different color. Sometimes, if I know I’m going to be out after dark, I look at my watch case as I weigh a couple different options but Indiglo wins out a surprising percentage of the time. It’s also kind of nostalgic for me since my very first watch when I was a little kid was a Timex digital with indiglo. That bluish-green glow makes me smile.
The glow is a great feature. In the dark it just amazing.
That’s my working outside watch!
Timex has always been one of the best and most reliable value brands.
I love them but can’t wear them.
The ticking keeps me up at night.
I’ve got the expedition Chrono, and love it. It’s got some heft to it, so you don’t forget it’s on your wrist, but it’s cheap enough it can be my weekend beater and I don’t worry too much about it.
Great pick!
Second this 100%!
They don’t keep the time… drift all over the place. better off with a Lorus for accuracy.
Had this as well. It would lose an hour or two on random days. Contacted Timex UK and they said their repair warranty is on hold. Should have returned it to Amazon but its oast its return date. :(
Haven’t noticed. Anyway, as funny as it sounds, I don’t really mind. My G-Shock keeps perfect time every time, so does my phone. My Seiko automatic on the other hand loses 4 seconds every day. It’s not a big deal to me 😅
My Timex Expedition Scout chronograph seems to lose 30 seconds a month or two, which is weird because quartz watches really shouldn’t lose time at all. But that would still be considered fantastic accuracy for an automatic (less than 1 second per day), so I’m not complaining.
I have a Timex Expedition Weekender. Bought new for around $20 years back and love it. Wear it almost daily to work. The only annoying thing about the Weekender is that it is LOUD (tick tick tick).
The Timex Expedition Scout is amazing value for money. Plus you got that glow!
The yellow seconds hand looks awesome on this one.
It comes originally on a green canvas strap.
