For all the people who love both the beautiful game and the hardwood, tell me if you see any similarities in nation/franchise histories between national football teams and NBA teams. Which ones would you match?
For example, I would say Brazil = Lakers. Both squads have fans with sky-high expectations and are always expected to win everything. Both squads have had numerous legends playing for them (Pelé, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Neymar & Wilt, Magic, Kobe and Lebron).
Argentina would be the Celtics. Both squads have two GOAT level players in Maradona & Messi compared to Bill Russell and Larry Bird.
Plus, I like the rivalry comparison of Lakers v Celtics and Argentina v Brazil.
And I would obviously match the Spurs with Germany for their system play and professionalism.
Any other similarities you can think of? It doesn’t have to be 100% accurate. I want to see what you can come up with.
You’re comparing national teams to club level teams that can trade/transfer players. Makes no sense at all
Sure you can! Perhaps it’s more of the history of countries and franchises. Nevertheless, would be fun to compare, I think. Just some creative thinking is needed
Philadelphia would be Belgium. Tons of talent, one of the world’s best players, but they can’t get it done when it really matters. Often choke in embarrassing fashion.
Embid = KDB Simmons = Lukaku Harden = Hazard
The Suns are Netherlands. 3 finals appearances without a trophy. Wear orange.
Nice one! Can definitely see the comparison there. Both had a couple of the best players in the game. Just couldn’t make it happen.
Bucks are probably closest to Poland. A team dragged out of decades of irrelevance by a generational talent.
Bro, we failed to win a game against MOLDOVA
That’s like if the Bucks choked away a lead vs a D2 college team
Or lose in 5 games against an 8 seed?
What I’m saying is, Lewandowski didn’t drag us out of shit. We’re still wallowing in it.
Pistons and Italy, no?
Both we’re good for a while, not as much recently (no playoffs/no WC qualification, let’s ignore Euro 2020). They’ve had temperamental and flamboyant players, they’ve played styles that can be rough to watch and border on obnoxious and non-sporting. They both wear blue.
