I’ve been eyeing a breguet classique on ebay with box and papers, but the owner wont share pics of the papers to match the serial number and store location. Having never owned a breguet, here are some questions:

  1. Are there super clones of breguet classique watches? If so how good can they be? Breguet watches have a lot of details that I assume super fakes can’t copy.

  2. how do you authenticate a breguet? What are some question I should be asking the seller given they wont share pics of the serial number and papers for privacy reasons?

  3. how trustworthy/ reliable is ebay authentication?

  4. how often do you have to service breguets? How much would an average service cost?

The service price will depend on the complication of the watch. The classqiue line features everything from time only models to tourbillions and minute repeaters.

The swatch group has a service guide online that features the basic service costs for their various brands. A simple handwound starts at $720 with a tourbillon going up to $2900. Mimute repeaters and and similar will be done according to estimate.

Not showing the serial number isn’t unusual. A lot of people will redact them to ensure people can’t use them to fake watches/scam others. A good look of the movement is key. It’s going to be very difficult to fake a movement to breguets standard of finishing.

Though “buying the seller” is still the most important bit in my opinion. If it’s a reputable seller with hindred of reviews and years of history, you’ll have at leats a degree of security. Comparing the price to the same model from other sellers would also be wise. There will of course be differences in pricing but it should at least be in the same neighbourhood. If it looks to good to be true, it usually is.

Is the seller a volume seller, or a private seller? I would trust a dealer on Ebay without serial verification. I would be a lot more uneasy about a private seller that has a lot more incentive to rip you off.

Depends the source… private seller? No unless chrono24 with escrow service. eBay? Only with Authentication service…
