Basically which players do you think have a skill or aspect in their game that can be kind of overrated by some people?

Ex: Myles Turner’s 3 pointer, Modern LeBron’s Durability, Marcus Smart’s Defense, etc.

The competitiveness of half the guys in the league. Including the All-Stars and All-NBA players. They might have the talent and put in the hard work but quite a few of those guys are only doing it for the paycheck. They don’t give a shit about wins and losses.

A 10-year veteran is not going to get hyped for a February game in Charlotte against a 20-win team. It’s all about the playoffs

Nothing in this thread is particularly surprising, so I am just going to drop a comment and come back later.

Anyone with a super athletic and fast game. Kyrie is the outlier, not something the average guy can do. When guys like fox and Morant slow down just a tad their game is going to suffer quite a bit. That’s not to say they can’t develop and be even better, but anything based off pure athleticism is just a quickly ticking clock for 90% of players.

Saying that Fox and Morant’s success is based off pure athleticism is overrated. Yes they are fast and athletic, and that’s certainly part of their success. But they are both very skilled players and make a lot of plays that’s aren’t just “pure athleticism”

KD’s “guard skills”. People call him a 7 ft guard a lot but it’s not really true….he’s a good ball handler for a 7 fter but it’s not really comparable to actual guards. Same with the playmaking, he can of course pass well but he gets flustered by double teams and turns it over a lot if he’s the primary playmaker, despite the height advantage.

    Lebron’s defense. Lebron’s basketball IQ. Lebron’s playmaking. Lebron’s hairline.

As of now - Wembanyama’s outside shot. He obviously will improve but right now he is a sub par shooter with terrible %. People compare him to guys like Porzingis and Durant, but it is not even close to them even early on in their careers.

Fair. As of this morning he’s 33% on 5 attempts per game in the preseason. It’s alright but he’s also taking some kind of wild threes so I’m sure it’d be higher if he cleaned up his shot selection. It is just preseason though so this could all be irrelevant in 1 week but I have a feeling he’ll end up being above league average.

James Harden gets this reputation of an outstanding shooter, but he has shot a league average since 2021. And most of that was brought up last year with 38%. Since Houston, his shooting has gone down quite a bit. In volume and accuracy.

    Harden Stats

Average maybe. But he certainly gets a higher rep than the results.

Jrue’s offense, i don’t think there’s been enough emphasis on how Atrocious his shooting numbers were in the playoffs. 39% from the field is real bad.

Based on comments I’ve seen lately on this sub KD’s defense.

Dude had 2 months where he played all D worthy defense (which the warriors hyped up to be DPOY worthy). And then people act like his defense is a game changer.

Very true. Dude is a good weakside secondary shot blocker 20% of the time and fairly disengaged low activity 80% of the time and people act like he’s lowkey a great rim protector or something.

Only reason the Warriors ever got away with lineups where KD was the tallest guy is because Draymond actually is a great rim protector and a motherfucker on the boards.
