Andy Robertson is set to be sidelined for around three months as the Liverpool left-back prepares to undergo shoulder surgery.
The Scotland captain was hurt in last week’s Euro 2024 qualifying defeat to Spain following a challenge with goalkeeper Unai Simon.
Robertson, who dislocated his right shoulder, returned to Liverpool to discuss the best course of action with club medical staff and specialists.
Without surgery, he could have been back playing within four weeks but that would have carried a significant risk of it happening again.

Liverpool have Kostas & Gomez ready to slot in and as far as back ups go you cant do much better than that tbf. This won’t be a major set back for Liverpool.
The catch is both of those players are a bit injury prone. Konate & Matip are too and Gomez typically slots in for them. Gomez is also the go to for rotating Trent. Beyond that the drop in quality is huge. As long as Liverpool don’t have too many defenders out they’ll be fine.
That’s not to say Robertson will not be missed. His relentless energy is unmatched. Hes pivotal to Liverpool.
