Similar to Ayton and Wiseman (who are drafted high just to be placed in a role player position)

Fans expect Mobley to improve to the “next level or he’s a bust”.

Pretty sure Mobley will just average 10 FGAs due to his chucking guards and while fans questioning why he’s averaging just 13/8/2.

He’s a defensive talent, but fans expect him to be like a dominant big of some sort to help the Cavs.

Luckily, there is no pressure on a small market team.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Mobley is the reason we are so good defensively.

Horrible take. Dude is an elite defender in the paint and the perimeter and guards 1-5.

      Did I say he’s Olynyk?

Everybody expects him to “make the leap” this year while he cant on 8 shots a game.

He took 12 a game in his for 2 seasons. And improved his scoring and % each year. Why’s he getting 4 less shots a game in year 3?

I mean, he hasn’t quite looked like the Tim Duncan comps he was getting after his rookie year, but even if his offensive game never fully develops he’ll be a perennial DPOY candidate. If your potential outcomes are somewhere between “high-level starter on a playoff team” and “superstar,” you’re nowhere near bust territory lol

But people/media expects him to make a leap this year which is not happening. Like he’s the keys to Cavs playoff run on 8 shots.

I think he can have the same trajectory as JJJ. Didn’t he enter around the same age? 19? They develop their defense first, and it takes 4 or 5 years for them to really round out into form.

When JJJ was drafted, GMs said that he would be one of the best players in the draft in 5 years, but not in the first 3. He was young and still growing into his body.

Incidentally, Bickerstaff was JJJ’s coach his first season.

Guys like Mobley, JJJ, Ziaire Williams (Z doesn’t have near the same ceiling as the other 2, but he was also extremely young when drafted) need patience. Start judging Mobley heading into year 5. He’s already solid defensively. And get him to 240lbs. Basketball Reference still has him at 215.

They expect him to be dominant defensively, which they were the #1 defense last season, and contribute offensively. They have Mitchell and garland to lead the offence

This is an insanely casual take. Mobley is a fantastic defender, trying to compare him to Ayton and Wiseman is straight up goofy. Comparing Wiseman to either of those guys also makes no sense. No one is expecting him to be a #1 option on offense or anything like that. He’s primed to make a leap because he’s good on both ends of the court, and his defense in particular as a big has a huge impact on the game.

Far from a bust with his defense already but I don’t see his offense improving as much as others say

Finally someone gets it. Nobody says he’s Olynyk defensively… while everyone expects him to be “on to the next level”’ this year which is not happening.

Dude has gotten better every year and OP doesn’t understand that you can still get better without stats improving drastically. Watch some basketball

There’s a reason you’re getting absolutely torched in here. Stupid ass take
