Just a backstory.

I am trying to get into watches. I dont have much knowledge. I’ve picked up a couple of seikos and im in love with them. I got gifted this Omega moonswatch, and its a beautiful timepiece.

Is there something I need to know about this watch? What is your guys opinion on this particular timepiece. Also, do you recommend if i change the strap?

With this I mean I want to seek more knowledge about watches, develop a enthuiastic interest and just generally learn more about all the different time pieces. I look at watches as artwork.

This watch is polarising but I think it’s a good start and a dangerous slippery slope into years of obsession 😂

I tried it in person and was highly underwhelmed.

Looked and felt like a McDonald’s happy meal toy

It’s serves a purpose. I tried it on in person as well and didn’t buy. But now I regret that decision.

      It’s a marketing marvel.

It allows people who can’t afford an Omega to feel part of the brand, without hurting Omega’s customer or the brand (because you’ll never ever see this watch in steel : the purpose being to immediately and without any doubt know it’s a Swatch, and not an Omega).

Congrats on the watch and the engagement! This is a cool, fun watch. If you are very new to watches, you should look into the history of the Speedmaster, if you aren’t already aware. My wife got me one of these (MoonSwatch) for my birthday this year and I like it. A Speedmaster is likely out of my budget for the near future, but this does somewhat scratch that itch. I put it on a single pass black nato strap and I think it looks and wears much better this way. Congrats again and hope this furthers your interest in watches!

It’s a great watch to be gifted in my opinion. It’s fun, and not particularly expensive. IMO watch tastes are a bit personal and I would rather someone not spend alot of money on a watch I may not like. The moonswatch is nice enough to wear often but it’s not so expensive you feel obligated too. If that makes sense

I agree. Sure, it wouldn’t win in a direct “actual best watch comparison” against other watch brands that actually use to operate at that price point. But that’s obviously not the point of the Moonswatch to begin with. It is its own kind of thing, in a way. And that’s fair. If one enjoys it, there’s nothing wrong with it 👍

In the midst of the Apollo 13 crisis, the Omega Speedmaster emerged as an unexpected hero. When the spacecraft’s onboard systems failed, astronauts relied on their Speedmasters to time engine burns with precision. This unanticipated role showcased the watch’s remarkable accuracy under pressure, demonstrating its crucial contribution to safely navigating the crippled spacecraft back to Earth. The Omega Speedmaster, often known as the “Moonwatch,” further solidified its legacy as an iconic symbol of human space exploration, forever etching its name in the history of manned space missions. 🌕🚀🕒

I’ll buy it from you if you don’t want it! It’s the only wearable moonswatch imo, otherwise just a fun idea. I think it looks fantastic. I do think those straps were kind of meant to be changed. Damn, enjoy it and appreciate the giver.
