I think KP actually has one of the, if not the best chance in the NBA at shutting down Wemby this season when they face each other.
When you think about it , he’s only 1 in shorter. Yes his wingspan is 6 inches shorter but KP jump really high, he has a max touch of over 12 foot. I don’t think Wemby release point is that much higher than 12 foot.
Also KP is barely slower and less agile than Wemby. I don’t think Wemby has enough good handles to beat him off the dribble. He’s also way stronger than Wemby so he can’t back him in the post.
I know KP’s injuries have hindered his athleticism but I don’t know if it’s that much. I still think he has the explosiveness and agility to guard him, I might be mistaken tho.
If not, do you think pre-injuries KP would have been his defensive nightmare?
Yao Ming
I’d honestly put someone like Marcus smart on him. Someone that can press right up into him, use active hands, and also stronger.
Sure he can rise up for a shot, but he won’t be dribbling or breaking down the defense.
Really any of the better defenders, Jaden McDaniels would do similar.
I actually think eventually mark williams will be one of the better ones, he’s still young but he’s shown to be a great rim protector for his age and isn’t too bad on the perimeter for his size, but the reason I think he’ll be a good counter to wemby is mark has the 2nd biggest standing reach in combine history which could help contest wemby
Wemby’s 7’4" but he may as well be 6’4" because he doesn’t have a post game and relies on shitty jump shots. Put Grant Williams on him and he won’t even sniff the paint.
What is your obsession with low post game.
what’s the point of being 7’4" if you’re not going to use that height advantage?
Does KD play as a low post center. This isn’t the 1990s. Also sending Ralph Sampson into the post is what led to injuries. Crushed what could have been a dynasty. Heck they beat the prime showtime lakers. At 7’4" going into the post is stupid when draymond can bear hug you. Essentially how the warriors beat the Nuggets. That series had me sweating. As a Warriors fan I can comfortably say we faced talented teams but they lacked experience. And of course the Celtics choked on offence and had a high no of turnovers since 1983 finals.
That’s pretty much my plan on Thursday
Love to hear it JKidd. Let that freak shoot all the jumpers he wants and we’ll see what kind of stomach Pop has for it. Loved your game growing up bro.
Bol bol
Literally anyone can get past Bol Bol by just not moving in a straight line.
Whichever players do best defending KD will do best defending Wemby. Being tall and lanky, his dribble will always be something to exploit. And physical pressure, which to be fair can work on anyone who doesn’t have that instant burst speed.
So Westbrook?
Chris Paul
No way, cliff maybe, but not Chris
KP isn’t as mobile as wemby and has a shorter wingspan. He might trouble him but I wouldn’t call him the ideal Wemby defender
Yea but like also basically every player in the NBA currently will have a shorter wingspan than Wemby, that’s kinda a meaningless argument
Fair but I think his mobility is the main sticking point. I could see Wemby beating KP and good amount.
JJJ, Giannis, or Mobley
Boban
Pat Bev
I think Giannis will be one of the best to defend him.
My pick: Jaden McDaniels
Yet they’ll end up putting Lopez on him
Giannis never wants the smoke
I think it’s more that he can get into foul trouble easily when he’s the primary defender
Never duck smoke Pat, Never duck smoke.
Weakside Defensive Player of the Year 😎
Strange comment since the Spurs are already posturing to do the exact same thing with Wemby
Maybe the new coach will be smarter than Bud
Gianni’s is and excellent team defender, but we gotta stop pretending hell go check another player one one. AD would be the better option.
I think that guy in mavs practice with the simulated longer arms is gonna clamp wembanyama.
JJJ or Bol Bol more likely best equipped defenders to put on him
The Mo Bamba disrespect
no Wemby is going to be a 4. Spurs are going to park him at the perimeter in their set plays.
