I was thinking today, I’ve seen talks about people entering their prime at really old ages, like Karl Malone for example. But that made wonder, who hit the peak of their career at the younger ages? For example, micheal carter Williams practically peaked in his rookie year.
blake griffin had one early prime in years 1-4, and then another when he went to detroit. granted, he was improving skill-wise the whole time, but his athletic dominance went down as years progressed, and was eventually replaced by a refined skillset in y2 at Detroit. sham how things turned out with his knees.
he’s my favorite player, and i have never seen him play in person, and now it looks like i never will
Same man :(
Derrick Rose. Youngest MVP, fell off a cliff once he got injured.
Rose
Larry Johnson. Yes I know back injury but if we’re including Derrick Rose then he’s fair game too.
Rose had a young prime.
I’m curious when people feel Bron’s prime started. Cuz he was already elite by Year 2 at 19 in the 2004-2005 season, but he clearly was a better player in say 2008, but he was even better in 2009 and 2010 than he was in 2008.
Well… prime is when a player is at their peak, so I think you are starting to answer your own question.
It’s a fair thought. Prime and peak are two seperate things, and LeBron’s probably had the longest prime of any player in the NBA. The question is when it started.
Derrick Rose and Brook Lopez are two players I’d argue had their peaks outside of their primes for example.
Tmac was one of the youngest hall of famers. Short and young prime for him
T-Mac didn’t have a short prime. He was 6’8".
Terrible
…Take a lap
Brandon Jennings
Had to scroll way to far to find this. His start to the league was unbelievable.
His prime was simultaneously the earliest and shortest. Essentially one game as I recall.
he was good in Detroit until tearing his achilles
Came here to say it. I was shocked when he scored 55. 55 in 2009 would be like 60+ game today, and this was from a rookie! I was pretty damn bumed that it was merely a fluke.
Dwade hit his prime by his 2nd season
09 Wade was good tho… and so was 2011 Wade
Tyreke Evans really did peak his rookie year
MCW peaked his first game
I’m still bitter that he won ROY that year over curry
Same with Brandon Jennings
he had a random second peak on the grizzlies in like 2018, he was a weirdly solid three point shooter and back up around 20/5/5 again. shame he was back to meh the next year in indy and then got busted for drug use right after
I remember watching a documentary back in the day with Tyreke and others hoping to make it big one day. Kinda crazy how it actually turned out for most of them.
Gunnin’ for that Number 1 Spot! That shit was awesome.
Yes dude! My buddy worked on that movie! He’s got crazy stories about it.
Yes, that was it!
my lasting memory of Tyreke on the Pacers is him blocking his own lay up attempt. one of the more surreal basketball plays I’ve seen
I went to the playoff pacers game where kyrie brought us back from a 10 point deficit, the last good game kyrie had in td garden.
Tyreke kept hitting the most random 3s…
Bargnani peaked in Bryan Colangelos head and only his head.
Everybody was looking for the next Dirk for a while there. It was a whole phase.
One of the best answers
Kings really did fuck his development up tho
Yeah the Sacramento Kings franchise really shouldn’t have gotten him addicted to crack
What playing for the Kings back then would do to a guy.
Penny Hardaway
injuries :/
Young Penny and Shaq were something else.
Ben Simmons
Jeremy Lin if you want to count Linsanity as his prime.
Derrick rose
MCW
Surprised no one has said Gilbert Arenas. From 23-25 he made 3 all stars 3 all-nbas and averaged 25, 29, and 28.
