The lottery picks are determined by a single elimination tournament not a draft lottery.

I think it could create a ton of great basketball to watch, and maintain fan interest for non playoff teams. Imagine how exciting the tournament would have been last year with Wemby as the prize.

It would significantly deter tanking and resting. What would be the point?

It gets teams out of the middle of the pack purgatory. You’re no longer punished for trying to get into the playoffs.

The cons are the difficulty of trades and value in the picks. Who plays for the traded picks and all? What happens if a team has two lottery picks and plays against themselves? How this would this work with the CBA and pending free agents is also difficult. Some teams being perpetual losers might become very problematic but that also kind of exists currently. Thoughts?

    This gets brought up a lot but why would players try to win when it could mean the person they draft will just replace them?
