I’ve got a 2016 MacBook Pro that I barely use as I’m pretty much do everything on my iPad now, it feels like it’s wasted on me. I’m looking to sell and get a basic laptop just for backing up files to drives and online. Does anyone have any recommendations or kit to avoid?
I would honestly keep the laptop you have and use it.
You would probably need to spend at least 300-500usd to get even a basic laptop thats okay for your usecase. Thats essentially the value of the laptop you already own. Id use it until it breaks and buy another model macbook used thats around the same value.
A 7 year old macbook pro is a basic laptop. How much money are you hoping to save here? If it works, I would just keep using it.

A Chromebook would only be useful if they were backing up onto google drive.
