Mine took a couple tries to set up and I had to switch routers but it was ultimately pretty worthwhile. Came out to maybe $100 for a lot fewer ads.

When my partner plays “mom-core” phone games, the amount of blocked traffic is absolutely bonkers.

Pihole on a Zero W is an absurdly cheap solution to a lot of irritants. You set it up once and then can SSH into it if anything’s going wrong on the dashboard.

Pi Holes are awesome! Blocking ads at the router level is a great idea. However, I have heard they can be a bit finicky, so not the best solution for all.

I’ve been running it for a few years now. Lots of custom lists. Got about 2.2 million domains blocked ATM. I’ve had to make a few exceptions and do some manual tweaks. The recent update to 6.0+ also gives quite the performance boost too while adding a few things that were lacking.

I assume you’re talking about the actual hardware of the various RaspberryPi. (Pies? Pis?) Some of the earlier models had problems with heat, which would cause them to fart out on occasion. I’ve got a Pi 4 Model B, and it does just fine (up 509 days, 15:33) humming away next to my router in a closet.

Raspbian wasn’t my bag so I’ve got the PiHole docker container running on my preferred flavor of Linux instead.

Depends on how strict you are on the block lists, that you can use with Pi-hole. If just sticking with the default, you should be fine.
