Hello everyone. I just finished watching the new episode of talking watches with Ed Sheeran and John Mayer for the seventh time and something stood out to me. At one point John Mayer talks about a Girard-Perregaux and disregards it as an “airport watch”. I’d like to know what would you consider to be prime examples of airport watches and what are your thoughts on classifying watches as airport watches.

A purchase you wouldn’t have otherwise made in a shop you wouldn’t have otherwise been in without being a captive audience, such as wandering an airport, bored.

I’ve purchased a few watches in airports.

The first one was for me, a Raymond Weil Model 8100 circa 2009 and Longines Conquest
17350800 this year for my wife.

Both were impulse buys so you could call them airport watches.

A Casio f91w because it can seamlessly switch between 12/24h and it gives day date and everything. You can’t miss your flight nor get confused with one.

I bought a nomos under similar circumstances. Definitely one of my more regretted purchases. They look so cool in the store but once I lived with it for a while…meh.

Longines feels like a luxury airport watch brand.

Leaving your trip from Switzerland and didn’t get a watch? Get one for under $5k at the airport!

Watch world is full of snobbery inverse and otherwise. I would not worry aboot it. Be happy purchasing whatever yon can comfortably afford, but that you cannot possibly ignore, where ever yon likes be it airport, grey, AD, fleabay or what ever.

Yeah. Mayer has an incredible watch collection, is well known as a watch guy, and has money to burn. Airports have watches that many of us know we can’t afford. Those prices are a joke to him, so he’s a bit over dismissive about it from his lofty perch. Ten grand is a joke to him. I’m a fan of his, but yeah, he was being a snob. He’d probably soften that statement if anyone brought him up on it.

I think he should stop doing talking watches. The first 3 was awesome but at this point it’s like a Keanu Reaves movie sequel.

Yeah, but John Wick is still fun. Worse, but still fun.

For a watch fan, it’s one of those uncomfortable pleasures, in that it’s great to see the watches he’s got and picked, but at the same time, he does a bad job of pretending he’s not boasting.

I think more than bashing GP specifically, he was bashing when you purchase a watch that you didn’t really wanted for a long time, you just camee across suddenly in a place you were going to leave and you purchase it in the heat of the moment, but it wasn’t really a piece you had really wanted for a long time. Just an impulse buy.
