Jamal Murray is reading the game at a PHD level, punishing defenses no matter what they do to defend him. Friday’s game at Memphis was the latest example
Video analysis by Chris Dempsey on Jamal Murray’s performance from last night’s game.
1: Maybe the simplest read in all of basketball. Defender goes under, take the shot. If you’re a shooter in the NBA and can’t make that read there’s a SERIOUS problem.
2: Solid reaction to a defender overdropping, but still nothing I’d call a “PhD level read”, he simply saw there was space in front of him and took the floater.
3: This… isn’t even a read. He simply makes a difficult shot over his defender.
4: Pocket pass to the pop, again this is a very simple read, especially between players who’ve played with each other for a long time.
Yeah, I agree. I’m not impressed by any of what the clip shows.
There’s a lot of magic to the Jokic-Murray 2 man game, but I don’t think this describes it.
Murray has been making really high level reads since he came back from injury. Turned himself into a quality playmaker.
Dempsey picked pretty poor plays to demonstrate that.
