I’ve recently switched from a D800 to a Z6II and shot my first event with it tonight. It went… Okay. I realized pretty quickly that the red AF assist grid from my flash doesn’t work on the Z series, which was a bit of a panic moment since I used to rely on it heavily to grab focus.
The Z6II has a built in green AF assist light, but it’s seriously blindingly bright and gets blocked by the lens half the time so is virtually unusable. I was using the Wide Area (S) on AF-S and it worked okay but, it struggled to grab focus quick enough for me to snap candid shots most times.
Curious what focus modes / setting changes y’all use to shoot low light (nightclub, music events), besides the obvious “Low light assist” being On?
