When Emoni was drafted in the second round , there were people calling him the steal of the draft. But the little we have seen from Emoni makes me belive att best he is a serviceable starter in like 5-6 years.
He’s still living of the hype from when he was 15.
I’d be shocked if he stuck in the NBA more than 4 years. He showed nothing in college that suggested he might be an NBA talent. He averaged 19ppg on low efficiency for one of the 5 worst teams in the country. His shooting numbers weren’t anything to write home about. I actually watched some Eastern Mich last year. He looked like he was playing pickup with guys he’d never met before.
And that’s to say nothing of his athleticism. He’s probably among the 25 least athletic players in the entire league. At his draft combine, all of his metrics were near the bottom - usually around guys who weren’t going to be drafted. He was slower in the 3/4 court sprint than Zach Edey.
I think a lot of us underestimate just how amazing NBA players are. It’s incredibly difficult to have a long career in the league, or develop into a starter. I don’t think Bates has a realistic chance at either.
Cam Whitmore was seen as the steal of the draft, was the Summer League MVP, and isn’t playing right now. These guys sometimes take time. If they were sure thing NBA ready at 19 they would have been drafted much, much higher up.
Thinking Sasser is the actual steal of the draft.
A serviceable starter for 5-6 years is a very respectable career for a 2nd rounder. Or even 1st rounder
Tbf, it looks like OP said he’d be an ok starter IN 5-6 years, rather than FOR 5-6 years.
It’s weird to say but yeah. I saw way too many optimistic comments when he was drafted on here and on Youtube. I know it’s only a second round pick but bro use that pick on someone that doesn’t have god awful measurements + baggage
He’s 19, his body isn’t close to nba ready and he’s on a team that’s trying to compete. In a few years he could blossom into a productive nba player, but expecting him to come in and contribute day 1 was never realistic and was never the Cavs plan.
He was hyped as the next big thing after his freshman year in high school. His path has been rocky since then but people still wanted to believe the hype from when he was 15 years old.
