Imo VAR should only exist in a technical capacity to prepare footage to transfer onto a ref’s portable Fold 5 or something. Samsung could sponsor it even!

The decisions should all be made by the ref on pitch and this would massively improve the speed of play during VAR. There’s no reason they should have to walk off pitch.

The monitor is bigger so you can see more clearly, the phone can get damaged during play, it’s easy to keep players away from the monitor because they aren’t allowed to leave the field, etc.

Because the VAR scfreen is bigger and because it stops the players coming over to watch, as they’re not allowed to leave the field to watch it, whereas they can all crowd the referee if they whip their phone out on the field.

Some stadiums have very large screens in the ground, I think this would be a simpler idea to implement with the benefit of the crowd seeing too and players wouldn’t naturally crowd the ref just by trying to see the images.

I think there’s many issues you can write about var, this seems like a bit of a weird one to focus on.

I think if you’re gonna go down this route of saving time, you could argue var just make the decision for the ref

Because they’re still a novelty and if someone tries to boast to me about owning a style of phone we had 20 fucking years ago one more time, I’m going to cry.

The screen size is an issue and then getting the feed to sync up what VAR with wifi/mobile data not being great in stadiums normally, issues with decision making would possibly occur.

They should carry a foldable chair so they can sit down white watching at the screen for the on field review.

    • Because it would fall out 10x during a match as the ref is running.
    • Because small screen.
    • Because Official VAR proceedings.
    • Because you can’t hook his tinyass phone up to the official broadcast.
    • Because play is stopped anyway so wtf does it matter if he goes off pitch?
    • BTW he runs back on the pitch before announcing his decision.

I think it’s weird the ref has to look in the first place?

If the VAR is good enough the ruling should be final. (This way the players and stadium vibes cant influence the ref).

The fact that 2 refs can disagree means either the rules suck or the ref.

they can barely make the correct calls with the big screen and multiple angles and you want them to look at replays in a pocket phone?

I remembered watching a match where there are multiple VAR screens on several points. The funny thing is that the TV was manually held instead of placed on a stand.
