We all know about the obvious unbreakable NBA records. John Stockton’s career assist and steals totals, LeBron’s potential scoring record wherever that ends up, Michael Jordan having 10 scoring titles, ones like that. However, I stumbled across another seemingly unbreakable record currently owned by Derek Fisher, a record that is far less prestigious than the aforementioned ones.

This is a list of the 5 players with the most career games shooting under 30% from the field:

  • Derek Fisher, 425

  • Jason Kidd, 364

  • Robert Horry, 352

  • Jamal Crawford, 339

  • Brian Shaw, 321

As you can see, the gap between 1st and 2nd place is pretty large, and it’s by far the largest gap anywhere on this list. The closest active player to Fisher in this state is PJ Tucker, the 2nd (I think) oldest player in the NBA, currently at 253 games. There’s not a single player on a trajectory to even come close to Fisher’s mark. The closest that I can find is Marcus Smart, who at 29 years old currently in his 10th season is at 174 games, but he would need to continue playing at his current rate for another like 15+ years in order to reach Fisher’s mark.

Combine all that with the fact that the NBA today is more efficient than ever before, and I think it’s safe to say that Derek Fisher’s NBA record of most career games shooting under 30% from the field will never be broken.

Reminds me in middle school I always would argue that I could beat Derek Fisher one on one because all he could do is shoot.

Interesting that three of the players on that list were on the Lakers 3-peat team at the same time averaging over 60 regular season wins and losing only 13 playoff games over 3 championship runs.

Wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of those were games of like shooting 1 for 4 while Shaq and Kobe scored 70 of the team’s 90 pts. The context of the era, and who they played with matters a lot.

It’s not like Fish was jacking up 20 shots a game

Damn… 3 of the 5 are apart of the 3peat Shaq and Kobe Lakers. That’s no coincidence. In the deadball era on the best team of the era. I guess when you don’t get the ball often, it’s hard to make shots when you do. Simutaneously though, those Lakers couldn’t afford anyone else and could win with worse teammates so who tf cares?

I remember always being so frustrated with him when he drove to the rim… would always get blocked or shoot it off the backboard.

He seemingly got hot in almost every playoff run that I can remember… he shot close to 50% from 3 a few times too.

Except for Jamal Crawford (who didn’t get the memo), the other guys on that list have combined for 16 NBA championships (I think).
