So I’m mainly take pictures of musicians and lately I’ve been noticing more artists wanting video work instead of pictures do you y’all feel like video content is taking over and musicians are caring more about having vlogs and music videos than having a photographer

A lot of people want video work since it’ll be for TikToks/Reels. They want visibility and not necessarily artistry. A good in-between would just be having your artist photoshoot + recording BTS on an iPhone or anything simple. That way they have their content + a tease to them “launching” the new photo session/promo visuals.

Video isn’t any better, it’s saturated too and phones are decent enough. Plus they usually have friends with cameras who do it for fun.

Spend the first song shooting video and then switch to stills for the other 2? Shooters who can do both are more likely to get the gig, but most of the time the only video needed is a few short clips they can dub over and post as a Story/Reel.

I’m a career photographer/videographer but I’ve also been a musician my whole life. I held drumsticks before a camera. I know that OP’s question was around photogs losing value, but one take that no one has mentioned yet is that video has the crucial element of sound; a band’s sound is their value. So whether we are talking about live concert videos, music videos, BTS videos, etc. there is added value by including the band’s songs, performance, or whatever. Photos are an important asset, but capturing a visual aesthetic that can be paired with a band’s sound is a value add.

I’ve been shifting away from the music industry since COVID.
It was pretty much my core business until then but no more :-).

Video is better than photos, you can see the emotions, experience it way different from a photo. Of course if video is done right. But yes photos loses its value. I rather see a video than a photo

Going to respectfully disagree with you on this one. As someone who shoots event photos, in some cases photos are capable of being much more interesting. Sometimes a show is going slowly, or there aren’t a lot of people there. A good event photographer can still work with this and make the event look like it was amazing, but a video wouldn’t be able to hide that as much.
