The topic of how players adapt to the modern game is pretty common, but I generally hear how centers from the 2000s with their heavy post play and lack of an outside shot wouldn’t do well in today’s NBA. I’m wondering who you guys think are guards from that era who would have difficulty adjusting to the current NBA today.

You know, I think you’re right. In terms of todays cancel culture (how it’s shoot first ask questions later), I don’t know if he’d survive this. It is simply too controversial to support these people, whether right or wrong, you are at risk of being canceled if you support someone with an accusation.

People need to remember how much his death and career achievement are guiding their downvotes toward you.

jason williams would not have had that type of leash like he did early in his career and would probably be a career backup now

Low-efficiency/high-volume shooters would have much shorter leashes if they didn’t improve their efficiency (i.e. someone like Stackhouse)

I’m not too sure how AI would adapt to the modern NBA. I’m sure he’d still be good, but I think his value would be a bit reduced

Remember, recent rule changes opened up the offense to allow more scoring. Guards today are pretty much free to roam around unencumbered. Someone like Iverson wouldn’t have to adjust his 3pt shooting because he’d be attacking the rim with more impunity than before, now that we’ve got big men out on the perimeter.
