No we aren’t lol. In a normal year, he’d had a great shot. But the other guy is a literal alien who clearly impacts so much, even when he isn’t directly on the ball.

This man is a bonafide baller. Anyone that watched UCLA games in the last 3 years knows it.

His Final Four performance against Gonzaga was pure nails

I didn’t follow the draft close enough to see where he went but when I saw him playing in a heat uni last month my first thought was “oh of course he went to the heat”

Big UCLA and JJJ fan here. The only thing I wondered about was whether he’d have the athleticism to play on the perimeter in the NBA. Heat fans, how has he looked in that regard? Is he outmatched at all athletically?

slightly unreleated his vertical is actually one of the better ones in the draft

I had questions about his athleticism for most of his junior and senior years at UCLA, but he was playing on bum ankles for most of those seasons. When he was finally healthy during the final stretch of last season I lost all doubts about his athleticism keeping him out of the NBA.

That UCLA team was really fun to watch, I’m glad he’s finding success and hope he can keep it up. Always thought it was weird he hadn’t gone into the league yet.

👆🏽 this. UCLA fans are not surprised. I think his basketball feel has allowed him to make up for his non-elite athleticism. I was concerned as well after seeing him get torched in the USC game. Shout out to Don MacLean for getting Jaime ready for the league. He’s leveled up and I’m so stoked to watch him succeed in the NBA. Hope Jaylen and Juzang get there.

I kept seeing people knock his athleticism during draft process and just don’t agree. He may not be the quickest/most explosive but his coordination, body control and hops made him an elite driver and finisher at the rim in college which I think will translate just fine

He goes so hard. I loved those ucla teams and I was really surprised how low mock drafts had him at the time. He definitely climbed the charts by draft day and rightfully so. His floor is elite role player imo, with plus starter upside if he can be consistent with his shot. He shot 40% one year in college and is an upper 80s free throw shooter, so I think it’s gunna happen.

    Gus on suicide watch

    “He’s a negative defender”

    Common Gus L

(For those who don’t know, Gus is an r/heat user who is a massive negative Nancy and has the worst takes)

Only saw him once but he made the right play every single time, on top of being a smart defender. Perfect for Heat

Fucking heat players man. The jimmy and bam heat period can be summarized by having an under the radar regular season and roster construction then exploding when it matters.

In our game against you guys, I thought he looked very comfortable for a kid playing in his 10th NBA game. We’ve got a bunch of guys in year two that still don’t look that comfortable (though they are younger than he is, I suppose.)

Yeah. That extra college experience (combined with this smarts) make a big difference. He’s played in a lot of big games already. One final four and two sweet sixteens.

Honestly, more competing teams should look towards rookies who played multiple years of college ball

WITHOUT QUESTION, he needs consideration for 1st or 2nd team all rookie.

Dude has IT. So composed, always makes the right play and has been locking dudes down! 🔥

Just stat wise and impact wise there’s no way he’s not at least 2nd team. He’s a 4th quarter closer on a competitive team.

I don’t think 1st team is in the cards because he won’t have the scoring stats voters would like.

They did try to get cute and try to draft someone like…. idk…. Hood-Schifino, and instead took the guy who has been making vet plays for 4 straight years on an elite college team.
