Holmgren has a true shooting percentage of .677, compared to Wembanyama’s .517, scoring on a similar volume.

Chet is shooting 10% better from two, 15% better from three, and 12% better from the free throw line.

For comparison, during his MVP season, Embiid had a true shooting percentage of 65.5%, while Brooks was at 49.4% in an awful shooting year.

That is a 16% difference between Chet and Wemby vs. a 16.1% difference between Embiid and Brooks

He’s a lock for ROY, which sucks because it’s the Ben Simmons thing all over again.

Chet has had NBA training, practice, nutrition, etc. for at least 12 months more than Wemby.

This sub couldn’t wait for a young player to upstage Wemby just so they could be “real haters fr fr😂🔥💯😈” and shit on the popular new thing.

Chet was the butt of jokes for over a year, now he’s what Wemby is supposed to be.

Wemby wasn’t drafted because his offense was going to be amazing on day one. Chet being this efficient is a surprise. But Wemby being somewhat inefficient if asked to carry large volume of scoring as a rookie is not in the slightest a surprise to anyone who watched him play and shoot the ball before entering the NBA.

The comparison just isnt fair. Chet had a full year of NBA training. He has a great team giving him more space to operate. Wemby is an actual rookie on a garbage team, hyped to the moon so everyone who plays him wants to put him down to earth.

Chet’s a full year older, and he’s had a year around the NBA even if he hasn’t played until now, so I’m not surprised that he is more efficient.

VW seems to be struggling most outside the arc. He’s a .503 inside the arc, and that’s an efficient number.

Chet was also more of a shooter in college.

I feel like the Brooks comparison is slightly off because Brooks, though a better 3pt shooter, only shot .450 from inside the arc last year.

Brooks wasn’t reliable from really anywhere on the floor; VW is.

Once again, I just want to remind u/round-revolution-399 and u/wrongerontheinternet said that Chet is “no where near Wemby” if you discount scoring/TS% and only look at the a defensive stats they approve of.

Are people expecting wemby to get 25 a game on good efficiency at 19 years old ? He’s still learning , pop is probably not giving him instructions on where exactly to play, he’s still testing the waters , getting shots up and getting accustomed to the nba , plus the spurs offence doesn’t seem coordinated because of the sochan experiment and them being the youngest roster , from what i watched if he gets stronger he can be incredible in the post and his shot motion is definitely smooth , if he learns how to pick his shots and gets more nba experience i can see his fg% go up , no reason for the comparisons all the time

Are you saying percentage points difference?

    10% better shooting percentage is 40% - 44%. 10 percentage points more is 40% - 50%

Meanwhile, Miller is chilling despite being on a bad team. He already proven the doubters wrong, he isn’t a bust, and the teams bad performance isnt on him. He doesnt care about personal accomplishments either.

      It isn’t

Wemby is great and will probably be a hall of fame, so is Chet but the difference is as of now Chet is way more polished and deserving of the ROTY award

people sure like to argue a lot about an award that has no bearing on a player’s future or legacy. when it comes down to it, roty is one of the most throwaway awards a player can have in their career. that aside, chet’s game is way more refined as this point and he’s playing better and that’s to be expected. wemby is raw as hell and still putting up good numbers. this is how most high level rookies who are thrown straight into the nba look.

the fact that chet is not only a positive contributor but a high impact player is a testament to his natural talent, his teammates, and his coaching staff along with that extra nba year he’s already gotten to help him get acclimated and prepared from a physical and mental standpoint. i expected a really good rookie campaign from him but i don’t think i expected him to be the #2 guy barely 10 games into the season.

I don’t think there is a single team, GM, fantasy basketball dynasty player, or fan of either team that would take Chet over Wemby long term. Cmon now

Online NBA discourse is so dogshit. You can’t talk about anything related to Chet or Wemby without Chet dickriders parroting true shooting stats or Wemby apologists talking about how bad his roster is. Please appreciate two future stars for what they bring to the table. It’s been a month and the ROY race is already getting near Jokic vs. Embiid levels of toxicity

wemby is younger with a shittier team with lower expectations expected to be the first option on a team that until very recently was designed to be dogshit.

The volume isn’t even that close tbh. Roughly 11 fg attempts per game vs 17.
