The Magic picks Suggs 5th overall, yet Franz is clearly the much better player and was picked later.

The Rockets also drafted in the top 5, with Jalen Green going 2nd overall. Sengun was drafted later in that same draft, and is the better player of the two.

Just thought it was a funny coincidence and certainly not something anyone would’ve expected post draft especially considering the hype these 2 received

Franz is not way better than Suggs and Suggs is going to develop more and is more athletic and a better defender. Frank will probably always have a better shot though. Suggs is going to be a good to great point guard once his jumper is sorted and he chills out a little on offense.

Sengun was the lowest pick of the four at #16 and has the highest ceiling

If you recall, Barnes being taken over Suggs was unheard of at the time… everyone at the time thought Suggs was a steal at 5

Leading up to the draft sure, but by draft night it was basically a sure thing Barnes was going 4th.

Imo I’m still pretty high on Suggs. His defense is really good though his offense is definitely lacking. But he got energy and a competitive spirit which some players lack (ahem Ben and Ayton).

Warriors drafted kuminga in that draft at 7 and it can certainly be argued that moody has been the better player. For instance, at least moody played in the last playoffs more than kuminga

Those aren’t lottery picks then, if they were selected after the top 5 they were just normal draft picks.

Not necessarily lower lottery picks panning out better than a #5 or greater pick, but similar concepts here with a teams lower pick exceeding the higher pick:

Nuggets selected Doug McDermott with the #11 pick in 2014, whom they traded to the Bulls for the #16 and #19 picks (Nurkic and Gary Harris respectively). They selected Jokic at #41 later in that draft.

In 2016, Bucks selected Thon Maker at #10 and Brogdon at #36.

In 2020, Celtics drafted Nesmith at #14 and Bane at #30, who they traded to Memphis for two future second round draft picks.
