I’m new to photography and I am really motivated to go out and practice. But since it’s becoming winter, it’s almost always dark when I get home from work. Since I live in a very rural area street photography at night is also not a very good option. Do you guys have any recommendations on what I can shoot and where I can go to do so? Thanks
It gets dark early
You live in a rural area
Sound like a Astro and light painting photography bonanza to me. So much cool things you can do. Get a tripod
get up early and shoot photos of sunrises…or of the very early morning golden light illuminating things.
thats what I do
try macro…you can shoot indoors
What kind of gear you have?
Think outside the box a little and you don’t have to leave your house.
One of my favorite photographers take pictures of action figures. Never has to leave his home. Check him out: mattea to photography
Practice on your pets, architecture, toys, plants, products.
Put together a studio if you have a spare room. Learn strobes and you’ll never have to market yourself as a “natural light photographer”.
I disagree about rural night photography, You can find lots to photograph.
Water droplet and soap bubbles are cool if you have a macro, astrophotography, setup simple studio inside and practice on pets and friends / family
Anything really. Take pictures in your house, if you’re rural I’d guess you have animals nearby, or trees, or something, take pictures of them. Astrophotography is an option too
The secret to good photos is lighting. Dynamic lighting.
12 noon when the sun is overhead is garbage.
Sunrise or sunset is the best. Especially if the light bounces off or filters through something. You get some really nice photos.
Christmas time has lots of lights and decorations up. You can take pictures with those in the background.
You also need a good subject. A lot of YouTubers bring their girlfriend or female friends. I personally bring my dogs although they are horrible subjects. As dashing as they look, they move around. I got a wife but shes not interested in my antics lol.
I used to take my camera out at lunchtime. If you have an hour you can scoff your food quickly, then go out depending on where you work. The sunrise also isn’t a bad idea especially if you live in the countryside. It’s an advantage already. This is easier in winter as the sunrise is later and you get some cracking skies. I used to take my wife to work and then go from there to a local view point. Did some great panoramas of burning red sunrise skies. It’s possible while still working etc.
