His first 3-4 games were really bad pulling down his averages but he’s really picked it up.

Hes also 9th in steals per game. Hes still obviously a negative defender but he’s been putting in a lot more effort on the defensive end.

He’s quietly improved a ton the last 2 years. If he had the size of other bad defensive guards like Luka / Hali I have 0 doubt he would be a clearly better defender than them.

Yeah same , been impressed with trae as a lakers fan so no bias. I wanted him to go the cp3 route n add some mass but maybe he’s worried bout shot mechanics being effected. Trae has fast hands and nimble feet mske him better on d then expected

I’m right there with ya. I think the next step is adding mass and conditioning to make up for size like what Steph did. Crazy strength and conditioning can make up for like 4 inches

He’s gonna have to get bigger and stronger and go down that route eventually, if he wants to play until his mid-late 30’s.

It’s the effort. He actually is at least putting in work on that end of the floor now and doesn’t completely give up when encountering a screen. Due to his physical limitations he’ll never be a good defender but he seems more active in the lanes and is locked in which is all you can ask.
