Watching the Celtics vs Magic game. And they really called that a technical on Tatum. Because he swung on the rim for .5 seconds? I understand they say “You can’t do that it’s against the rules.” But this is way out of hand. They called one on Sexton last week or so. They ejected Giannis for looking at someone. Can the NBA do something?! This is getting beyond annoying.

I think it’s dumb too but the reason why it was called because of the pull up right

Yes, they only call it when somebody pulls up. Players are allowed to hang when somebody is under them to not get injured falling down.

Still a bad rule, players get excited, let them live.

I dunno, they called one on Porzingis a couple of weeks ago where he would have done a backflip if he didn’t hold on for an extra 1/2 second. Tatum has always taken his time coming down from the rim. He is super sensitive to how he might land and what might be below him (rightfully so).

I think it’s reasonable for a player - in some instances - to pull themselves up to stop their momentum. Maybe that’s what Porzingis did and the refs called it falsely. But 99% of the time the refs are calling unnecessary pull-ups when the player is not in danger and just excited. I hate those calls as well, but that’s how it’s been officiated since the start of this season.

Not sure about that. Are any of these people making the rules actual athletes. Do they know how the body works??

But then how would the league make money??? How would they control the chaos and sheer destruction that hanging on a rim or taunting an opponent can lead to???

Seriously tho this just reeks of the old Reefer Madness movie

This should be such an obvious call - yeah if you’re doing pull ups or swinging one handed for the audience then sure, call a tech.

Tatum literally swing forwards with his knees tucked to avoid hitting another player, then waited for his momentum to swing him backwards so he could release without breaking his back, and they called a tech. Such an awful call.

I miss the good ol days when people like Shawn kemp or Kenyon Martin were allowed to just destroy the rims and swing around. Much more entertaining.

Referees have never played any game in their life, how else could they justify some of these techs. Like Chris Paul said, don’t use a tech to get your point across.
