For the uninitiated, the time does not begin until a player has properly inbounded the ball to another player; if you hit it off the backboard, it does not become a live ball until a player touches it. I believe this would be very efficient, but risky; however, if a player is close to the basket and you’re expecting a three or a quick shot, a layup off the backboard is a great option. Obviously, the downside is a turnover, but if it has been done before, I can’t see why it’s not more common.
