21yo with no experience in watches. Want something reliable that can last decades with proper maintenance. Looking for a watch I can wear to work and maintain a professional appearance. I am looking for something in the Tissot/Longines range.
For context I only own Casio watches at the moment so I’m a huge noob when it comes to watches.

Honestly I would recommend you actually research the topic and look into it. Dont spend 4k on something some random guy on the internet suggested and you know nothing about. Seems like a waste of money - nobody needs a watch. Invest a bit of time into it and instead buy something you know you want, you appreciate and you associate a journey with. Coz you know… it’s 4k.
a 90s Seamaster Professional would be perfect. They came in mid and full sized! Auto and Quartz! And most of them can be had for well under 4k
I found a nice Breitling Navitimer about a year ago on chrono24 for 4400. The bracelet is gorgeous and the watch even more. I wear it anywhere.
a tag heuer carrera or an omega seamaster would be solid choices for a professional yet versatile watch, both within your budget and built to last.
Omega Aqua Terra, some kind of Tudor diver, or grand Seiko SGBW231 if you want a dress watch
Grand Seiko 9F quartz or SBGW231/283 for amazing finishing and bang for buck.
Tudor BB58 or BB54.
Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope or Sinn 356/103 if you want a nice chronograph.Seiko spb143 rivals the Tudor bb58 for those that don’t want to spend 3k on a watch. I got one and am pretty happy with it.
You’re not going to buy a bad watch for 4k. They’re mostly high quality but have different styles. It would help to get a feel for what style you like. Diver? Dress? Chronograph? GADA (go anywhere do anything)?
I guess since this is a gift, you’re on a bit of a tight timeline. My advice was going to be to buy 3 cheap watches, live with them for a while, figure out what you like and don’t like about each and use that to inform your 4k watch purchase.
Barring that, get a Tudor black bay 58 and call it done
I wouldn’t recommend jumping from Casio to a $4k watch. There’s a lot of sub $1k watches you will be very happy with. Tissot, Hamilton, Certina, Seiko etc.
I understand what you are asking, but without some guidance as to your personal preferences, that is asking a lot. For example, you should be able to narrow down some options you like by just looking online. For example:
- Bezel or no bezel
- Diver or no diver
- Metal bracelet or leather strap?
- Gold ?
- What color dial face do you prefer? (Black, white, blue, green, etc…)
- Size? What size is your wrist? Measure it, and go try on some watches to see what size looks comfortable on you, this is a big factor, and come back with a decision. For example 40mm or smaller? 40mm or larger?
- Chronograph?
- Any other complications you like?
- GMT?
Once you have some preferences, people here can give you some guidance.

I’d say Tudor black bay 58, I’d definitely go with this is I was in your position. Also the Longines spirit collection has been killing it lately, so check them out too

Get a citizen eco drive diver. And invest rest of money.
Based on the details you provided, it sounds like you’re off to a good start. You can get a Tissot PRX for as little as $400 for the quartz version and around $700 for the automatic (or even a little bit lower for both models if you shop around!), then save the rest. Or you could just pocket the $4,000 and save it for a bigger watch purchase that you might really like down the line.
