2/3 of the way through the 2023 season.
Who is your coach of the year? And why?.
It’s seriously crazy Tomlin has never won COTY, but every year he’s recognized as a great coach and his teams do better because of him.
I know nobody wants to hear it, but if the Packers sneak into the 6th seed by going say, 5-1 the rest of the way, Lafluer needs a nod at least. Youngest team in the league at 2-5 and ends up 10-7 to go into the playoffs? Proves he didn’t need Rodgers to be a good team.
I’d still go with Campbell or Ryans (if he makes the playoffs), but yeah if Packers make the playoffs, LaFleur should have at least some consideration
if demeco leads them to the playoffs he 100% deserves it… no one expected houston to be this competitive
Colts were at 6.5 wins as well
Campbell took a team that has been a laughingstock for decades and turned them into a top NFC contender so I’m going with him
Sirriani
Campbell of course
Nick sirianni but apparently he’s too good a coach to win it
Nick had a really strong case in 2021 and 2022, since we were supposed to be a rebuild team and we were immediately a Wild Card team followed by the #1 NFC seed but award lost all credibility to me with Daboll anyway lol. It’s not hindsight to point out that the Giants were absolute ass the back half of last season and the most evident frauds in the league. The award not being Pederson or Nick just showed that it’s not one even worth winning lol.
MCDC or Nick Sirianni.
If the Eagles make it to like 15 or 16 wins I 100% Sirianni should win it
Steve Wilks
If the Texans make the playoffs it should be Demeco
It probably won’t happen, but how insane would it have been for a rookie QB and head coach to win MVP and COTY respectively? How many times has those awards been won by the same team?
If the broncos make the playoffs it should be Peyton
All I know is Andy Reid has only won the award 1 time and that was back in 2002. While a mediocre coach in Ron Rivera has won it 2x. Too often the award goes to a new coach who gets their team to overachieve and does not recognize sustained excellence. That’s how a coach like Dabolll won it last year despite a pedestrian 9-7-1 overall record and finishing the regular season going 2-5-1.
It’s a weird award - as you said, it’s really all just based on a coach exceeding expectations rather than who the actual best coach is.
COTY is kind of a stupid award. The best coach rarely actually wins it. It’s like if the MVP award went to the player who had the most unexpectedly good season.
Campbell for bias Demeco and Tomlin are more then deserving to
Tomlin
Either Demeco or MCDC imo
Is interesting though that Shanahan still hasn’t won, LaFleur hasn’t won, Taylor hasn’t won, McDermott hasn’t won, Sirianni hasn’t won, Reid’s only win was 21 years ago, and McVay’s only win was as a rookie. The most recent win by someone who’s a top coach now was Harbaugh in 2019
Mike Tomlin
