There’s professional, practical, and probably legal reasons why they obviously can’t baldly say, “Lakers will trade for Lavine with X, Y, Z assets”: it would affect the leverage of both sides, it might expose their source, and pro sports are unpredictable environments and trades doubly so, so it’s important to hedge their beliefs.
But the reality is they’re right more often than not with these predictions, that’s why they have their roles in the first place. It’s not Pulitzer winning stuff, but it is legitimate journalism in the era of 24 hour news and social media reportage, insofar as they offer a version of front office thinking around the league.

Lavine is better than Westbrook was when they brought in Westbrook but I still wouldn’t do it because depth is the Lakers biggest issue and that would become an even bigger problem with Lavine.
