With an all-time great like Jokic, an nba personality that vaguely reminds me of Tim Duncan already, plus outstanding help from skilled players like Murray and Porter Jr. just like how Tim Duncan had Tony Parker and Manu. It sounds like a recipe for a dynasty. Thoughts?
I think you’re under rating Manu and Tony but I do see what you’re talking about. There definitely are some similarities
No one said I was directly comparing their skill levels so no, I’m not underestimating them
Put the bottle down. The Spurs got so many below average players second and third contracts its crazy. While winning multiple championships. Until Denver does that please use a different team to compare.
I love how angy people get lol
Imagine if the nuggets had a 6 man like Manu, that would be illegal
Yes, but at thecsam time the Nuggets feel more fragile. Not just because of injury issues, but because they relly so much on their number 1 and 2
Thoughts?
They are closer to starting one than likely any other franchise right now.
But the level of competition is absurd right now. Especially in the West. It’s gonna be tough. I expect them to be in the discussion every year as long as they have at least Jokic and Murray, though.
there’s no an absurd level of competition if one team is 44-3 at home in their last 47 games. Retrospectively, people starting to talk that Warriors in 2016 played the lowest the league had ever been with their 73-9 run. So, when the hysteria gonna lower down some years later, the same gonna be said about Denver.
Yes, there are a lot of stars, but there’s nobody really who can win a series against Denver
Well, Timberwolves look like they’re gonna try so I hope somebody else will take care of them
I sure loved the Spurs back in the glory days with Tim Duncan and Mano. That was a fun team to watch ❤
They don’t feel as overwhelming op as the Warriors.
They don’t give me dread like the Spurs either.
Maybe it’s because of injuries, but I just ain’t afraid of them like I was with previous dynasties. That might change with win 2 but rn they feel beatable.
I see the comp you’re making but Manu was great defensively, and both him and Tony were legit all-stars. Something Jokic’s 2a/2b hasn’t even really come close to being thus far.
Also, Tony & Ginobili during prime Spurs era were like 10-20% of the teams cap. Murray & MPJ are 40% of the Nuggets salary. Going to be much harder to construct rosters around those three to be an actual dynasty.
They’ve come close, just haven’t gotten there. Injuries disrupt Jamal just enough, MPJ hasn’t had the consistency, and AG was honestly getting the hype for it last year but just didn’t quite make it. None of them All Stars but I’d say they can all be close, especially in the playoffs when it matters.
Jamal plays at an All-NBA level in the playoffs. I think it’s mostly circumstance that he hasn’t made an All-Star team. This year he won’t make it again because he missed a month with a hamstring.
Crazy take I think Parker and Ginobli were leagues above Murray and Porter Jr so far.
Murray has playoff sparks that shows he can reach the spurs levels but he needs Jokic on the floor to do it.
Thinking basketball had a nice video on Ginobli that makes you feel like as high as he’s rated today he still might be underrated
Murray turns into prime Steph in the playoffs so it’s fine
Not sure Parker ever put together a playoff run like Murray’s last 2 (especially the last one). In the RS you’re right, but in terms of playoff impact neither Parker nor Ginobli are leagues above Murray
Are you 8 years old he won finals mvp in 07
Parker was a Finals MVP over 30 year old Tim Duncan. Counting stats aren’t as good, because a) it was 2007 and b) Spurs were always about team ball so nobody put up big numbers even by 00s standards, but he was amazing in that series.
You don’t have to count stats to see how amazing Jamal Murray was in the recent playoffs either - stats confirm it, but he was doing everything out there
First time two players on the same team scored a triple double in a playoff game
He had a better Finals run than Jamal, sure. Playoff run I’m not too sure, even taking your stat inflation argument. Jamal was better across the board - above him in every single counting stat+TS% and the team ball argument could just as easily apply to Denver
Spurs were built better, Nuggets are more fragile, so they’re gonna need a bit of luck. But yeah, it’s all possible
The difference is that most of Duncan’s all time value after 2004 came from defense. While Jokic all time value comes from offense
I disagree. It may seem that way looking at stats, but after 04 manu and parkers offensive usage both increased so duncan didnt need to dominate on offense like he used to.
WHY ARE WE COMPARING SKILLS STILL YOU DING BATS I LITERALLY SAID ITS NOT THAT THEY HAVE THE SAME SKILL. They just remind me of each other personality wise on the court, you illiterate doofus
Well the Spurs never repeated so that gives everyone else a chance this year right?
Had the same thought watching them tonight.
imo jokic’s supporting cast aint good enough for a nugget’s dynasty
Stop the dickriding
Hes not dickriding hes just uninformed
