A record that was once difficult to match will probably be broken again in a year or two. It’s amazing how Jokić became that dominant in the last three years.
Russell Westbrook should be in attendance and congratulate Nikola Jokic
DND - Passes the Torch
Russ can’t have nothin man
You mean Metta World Peace 2 ?
more amazing is someone is on that pace, doing it in the flow of the game and actually winning games at a championship level rather than just stat padding/chasing to break it like RW did
Turns out having a team of shooters with a great passer wins games. Best shooter on OKCs roster was… Oladipo? The shot the Russ assisted on to get the 42nd Triple Double was made by fucking Semaj Christon.
Westbrook has won 73% of the games that he had a triple double in lol
Are people still saying this dumb false narrative lol? It’s 2023.
While Jokic might break the pace, Russ triple double feels more impressive to me. Especially if it comes from a guard than a big
When you’re paying your main guy the max, you’d expect him to be crushing in all departments so Russ did excactly what he had to do, if there’s people to complain about complain about like Ben Simmons or something
People hate on Westbrook and call him a “stat-padder” but didn’t he win like 70% of games he got a triple double in?
Someone did the numbers and found out that a triple double was a better signifier for wins for Russ than him keeping turnovers down (it was in a YouTube video, it was something like he had a higher win % in games with a triple double than games with 3 or less turnovers)
The rebounds were the stat padding. Steven Adams would box out for him but not go for the ball. It was a good strat because it got the ball up the floor quicker
Westbrook deflated Trip Dubs. If only people cared as much lol.
Difference is Jokic wins games
Westbrook HOFer but his triple doubles are overrated. Both can be true. https://youtu.be/RMtEWzQvKjI?si=Othh0e5qcP5GBLP4
I think Russell’s was harder to do as (with the help of Steven Adams) he was crashing the boards, starting his own fast break, and either driving to the basket or having the eagle eye to drop it off for the assist…at a VERY high rate throughout the game.
I think Jokic’s is the most efficient AND the most “…DUH” variation, as the offense runs through him and due to his offensive threat when the defense collapses he effortlessly pitches out to a team of snipers. WHen someone tries their luck, he just waltz to the basket, potentially drawing the foul, and making the opposing team groan.
And he obviously can grab the board with ease. No contest most of the time.
The system they’re running is so damn good and he is playing his role so efficiently that only injuries could hamper him or the Nuggets.
Again, Russell’s was the hardest. Joker’s is the smartest. To see both in my lifetime is fucking amazing and I hope we don’t discount either, as both were not hampering their team from winning.
I was listening to a podcast featuring old jazz players and one guy (I think Aaron James) mentionned that back in the 60s and 70s, they would only give out an assist for a layup more or less. If you pass to a guy shooting a jumper, no assist for you. Wild that Oscar Robertson averaged a triple double during that era.
If it happens I think Russ is going to be salty.
It’s one of the biggest accomplishments in the league and he’ll lose it not long after taking it, and Jokic will do it playing winning selfless basketball.
One of them doesn’t focus on getting them
And has made his teammates way better than Westbrook ever did. Empowers them to make big plays but takes over when things get tight. Dude is a fucking legend. Love watching him play.
Shoutout to the big serb for not calling for rebounds on his way to do it
