Ive been part of the retro game corps (a silly little discord community) for a couple of years. Talking about Miyoo Mini Plus, other retro consoles, etc…etc… It was fun, but with the whole Discord age verification thing and Palantir…im out.

So I am looking for some gaming related discord alternatives.

I found the Retro Gaming Hub (invite here: https://stt.gg/n4gRxZP9 ) but im looking for more options. Where are you all hanging out at?

What clients ate people using for Matrix? The ones I’ve tried are usable but not user friendly enough for me to be able to move my whole community over.

These are all looking like they are becoming good replacements. However, they will have to beat the challenge of adapting to the sudden high influx of users when none of them are fully ready:

    Fluxer.app (Open Beta)

    GaneVox (Open Beta)

    Spacebar.chat (Open Beta)

    Stoat (Open Beta)

Language model integration, at the core. But only if you want it.

Nah, not installing anything that uses this shit, even “optionally”.

Some people in my communities are looking at Root, it lets you directly import a discord server template when creating a server. It has a nicer UI than all the matrix apps and stoat, but isn’t as open as those.

Root have exactly the same issues than Discord, except their are too small to have to add face recognition (for now as it’s trending). It’s closed source, non selfhostable, not encrypted, not federated. If you don’t care about all of this, then Discord still the best choice.
