Data from the Korea Automobile and Mobility Association showed that EVs produced in China accounted for roughly one-third of newly registered EVs in Korea last year, a sharp increase from about 1 percent in 2021. Last year, a total of 220,177 EVs were registered here, and the number of EVs produced in China reached 74,728 out of them.
Industry officials said that price alone does not fully explain the rapid ascent of Tesla and BYD in Korea. As the domestic EV market remains in a formative stage, consumers appear to be placing greater trust in manufacturers specializing exclusively in EVs rather than traditional carmakers transitioning from internal combustion engines.
Tesla and BYD are possibly better engineered but I’m fine with Hyundai, Kia and VW EVs.
Tesla absolutely not. They are overpriced garbage.
On what metric? What 2 cars are you comparing?
The Model Y is the worst car ever for German TÜV inspections, narrowly beating out the second worst car ever, the Model 3. And not just for electrics, for all cars. They are trash.
Look kid, I know trash when I see it. Bye now.
Ha! Probably old enough to be your dad, and actually know the difference having a Mech Eng degree and being a licenced mechanic, not some keyboard warrior.
Tesla ?
In its latest “TÜV Report 2026,” which analyzed 9.5 million vehicle inspections, the Tesla Model Y came in dead last among all cars in the 2-to-3-year-old category.
The Model 3 didn’t fare much better, landing in the third-to-last spot with a 13.1% failure rate.
Tesla’s strengths are on the actual EV system. You and Germany are looking here at suspension components and brakes.
I’d never buy a Tesla while Musk is remotely linked to the company, but these numbers that are spread everywhere don’t really make sense. Tesla, unlike almost all other manufacturers doesn’t foresee regular inspections for their cars. New cars in Germany have to pass that TÜV safety check up after three years. Almost every car by then had at least one regular maintenance by the manufacturer. If issues are found during these inspections, they are fixed before the car gets officially checked for the first time. Unlike Tesla. Teslas are usually checked at the TÜV for the very first time. Obviously, that leads to a higher failure rate. That doesn’t proof that Tesla has a great built quality, but it also doesn’t proof the opposite. The numbers simply are not comparable in a meaningful way. Another aspect is that the statistic didn’t consider the milage of the car. Teslas on average were driven more compared to some of the cars that ranked better which again leads to an inaccurate statistic.
Don’t buy Teslas as it’s supporting facism. Still, this is a bad statistic.
