TNG s1e4 “Code of Honor” and VOY s1e1 “Caretaker”
At a Star Trek panel at DragonCon 2010, Star Trek: Voyager actor Garrett Wang said this episode “stinks”, to which LeVar Burton agreed, adding, “Without question.” [10] Furthermore, Wang attributed his viewing of the episode as the reason why he ended up landing the role of Harry Kim, stating that, had he watched another episode of TNG, he would have been “too nervous” during his audition, as he would have ended up being a big fan of the show: “So three times I tried watching [the series] and I realized God was telling me ‘Do not watch Star Trek: The Next Generation’.”
That’s hilarious. I will admit, as a rank amateur writer, that reading or watching some absolute crap is more motivating than something complex and good.
Thinking “shit, man, I could do better than that” is a powerful force.

And I hope there is one day a Trek actor who cites “Threshold” as their inspiration for auditioning.
To be fair, Robert Duncan McNeill swings for the fences in that episode. Really sells the body horror with the tongue scene. Very Jeff Goldblum in “The Fly” vibes.
Apparently he helped rewrite some of Tom’s scenes to try and find something meaningful in the story.
Oh valid. “Threshold” is just low hanging fruit.
Right? Like, lets see someone who was inspired by Robert Beltran sleep boxing for 45 minutes.
