This is an app to save location history locally. I’d like to connect it with HomeAssistant, which it supports, but the documentation is pretty sparse. Do I need ro set up HA to receive the info? What endpoint do I enter into the Colota app?

I feel like this should be more obvious, I really have no idea

I’m back. So, Colata is just a better OwnTracks. It’s a client, compatible with almost every selfhosted location server like HA, Dawarich, etc.

I followed the documentation (all on my phone) and it’s pretty straight forward. I did what it said and it worked. There’s nothing more to it.

Whenever I get some free time I’ll install and try Colota with Dawarich or something else that let’s me embed it inside HA through an integration with widgets.

Thanks for looking into it. What URL did you enter in the server endpoint? Is it just the HA domain? Or is it another link that I have to get from HA? I’m sorry if this is a dumb question but I genuinely don’t know.

The documentation explains it perfectly. When you add the OwnTracks integration in HA, it gives you the url you have to use in the OwnTracks client which in this case is Colota.

In my case it was the Nabu Casa URL, since I pay for their cloud service.

Okay, I found it. I was looking in the wrong place and going in circles instead of clicking through the documentation one screen at a time. How embarrassing!

You are 100% right that it is spelled out very clearly. Thank you for the patience.

I’ve been using Colota this weekend sending data to a Dawarich server. I like that you can filter out inaccurate GPS readings by setting an accuracy threshold, so this removes any false points that I tend to get with other location apps.

I’ve tried GPS Logger for Reitti, and the new Android Dawarich app, but so far, Colota seems the best (early days). It has the nicest ui as well.

In terms of what to enter, you need to find out what HA requires for the URL to receive data, then set that in the Colota app. Colota will just store the location data until you set a remote end for it to connect to.

This is an app for android that can connect to Dawarich. Try it, the docs are great at explaining how to do it.
