Does someone know if that supports Linux ?
I mean if the editor can be run on linux ?
I see only Windows in the requirements.
Facepunch bars RUST from being played on linux on official servers due to their anticheat ecosystem and unwillingness to handle support. I’m not sure what their current stance on S&box is since I don’t see any posts confirming anything, but I’d presume at best their support of proton or native support will be indifference, and at worst blocking us out.
Weird. They say support of EAC on linux wouldn’t be viable. I play multiple EAC protected games on linux.
I guess they have decided Linux is only for cheating…
EAC comes in a few different flavours. While it does support Linux, I believe it’s only supported in user mode, rather than kernel. I don’t agree with kernel level anti-cheat, but I believe that’s the flavour Rust is relying on.
That said, that game is weird, and people take it incredibly seriously. I’m not sure what’s envisioned for S&Box in this regard, since it aims to compete with Roblox as a game design tool
I tried testing it on CachyOS through steam during the early beta testing and iirc I couldn’t get it to launch reliably even with proton experimental.
I’ll be picking it up and trying it again soon so I can update if they fixed it or if I can get it working
It looks good, I like the physgun model, not sure about the toolgun (the original is a classic), and I hate those weird stubby thumb character models.
Playfund pays creators based on play time.
Couldn’t someone have bots play their game and generate money?
It’s likely a cent or few per hour, which is almost guaranteed to not be worth the electricity costs
S and Box? What does the S mean?
It spells Sandbox
I was not a smart man today
In all fairness it does read like the name of a store where you but in bulk rather than that of a game
Oh joy another valve supported and endorsed 100$ skin speculation game built off stolen code and child exploitation
what?
The game has had monetized skin gambling/speculation since before it was really playable. Its using uncredited code and systems from rust modders, several of whom were/are children. Valves framework of the steam marketplace/in game purchases help facilitate this
This was FOSS, right ?
Looks great!
Only the editor, like Source2 source isn’t available, though the binaries will be downloaded when you build s&box from source. Also if you are going to build it from source but haven’t bought the game you need to change the steam App Id in \engine\Sandbox.Engine\Application.cs to 480.

MIT-Licensed, third party components might be licensed different.
I’d assume that “third party components” is doing a lot of heavy lifting since it runs on Source 2, which is a proprietary engine.
