Been using Sync and love it, but there are bugs and the dev disappears for months at a time. Is Boost regularly maintained or should I just switch to a FOSS app?

Someone who comments every few days doesn’t really fit the label of “a dev that disappears for months at a time”.

Boost isn’t the most regularly updated software, sure, but it’s not that unexpected from a singular dev that is clearly not doing it as a full time job nor as their passion project hobby. Coding can take a ridiculous amount of time and effort when you include all the research, planning and testing as well.

Ruben isn’t super quick to put out updates but he makes up for it in quality. He was slower than some other devs to get Boost for Lemmy out the door but the first release was damn near perfect, stable, fast and only very minor bugs. Personally I prefer quality over constant updates.

These developers owe us nothing and it takes an incredible amount of time and lots of money to develop an app of this quality so no matter which app you choose consider paying and/or donating.

I love Sync, but it still doesn’t have working notifications unlike Boost. Also Boost is very reasonably priced in comparison!

I had a few issues with Boost for Reddit, Rubén responded each time I posted and either helped me solve it or promised a future bug fix

To say he’s active is an understatement.

I bought Boost for Lemmy day one.

Ruben is active but I have switched to using voyager. The developer is extremely active with non stop updates.
