Personally I’m mixed on the idea. Not a huge fan of BYD as a company, but not really worse than Stellantis at this point and at least they’d be making cars in Canada, so I’d be cautiously for it.
Stellantis only wants to make muscle cars for penis-free Boomers and a shitty van that people would rather wait 14 months on a Toyota waiting list than buy. Ford just makes plastic trucks for fat people cosplaying as contractors. Same with GM with the Shitverado.
But BYD tried to make electric buses in the 'shwa…it was a complete disaster. Even Oshawa didn’t buy them.
Importantly, neither Stellantis, Ford, or GM wants to make cars here anymore. Like I said, I’m not putting a ton of hope on BYD panning out, but a paycheck is a paycheck.
Called it. Bring it and (our gov’t) let our unions do their job. In fact make their job easier.
Bring it
Yeah but I won’t run that tech, so can it run without an antenna or internet access?
All new cars have spyware, GM OnStar is the worst, they even upload your weight from the airbag sensor.
Yeah, and try opting out lol. It’s designed to be impossible.
Me: Why are GM owners sitting on their airbag—oh.
Don’t quote me on this but I believe they only started making over-the-air updates an option in 2025. It’s not required AFAIK.
