This seems irresponsible. Specifically expecting Africa for heat deaths. It is the continent least affected by El nino, which is an eastern pacific phenomenon, and southern hemisphere has mostly eastward winds.

9 million a year die from starvation, about another 9 million from air pollution, much if it from cars, many 100s of thousands die every year from easily prevented diseases.

Many 10s of 1000s die from heat every year. Before that many 10s of 1000s died from cold

I think it safe to say we literally don’t give a shit, while this info is good to know, this will just be another one of those statistics, like the above.

On the flip side, planes run into a building, a couple 1000 killed and the earth will be scorched and trillions spent. we have near zero concept of risk.

It’s not even that we don’t give a shit, it’s that temperature extremes kill people who would have died the next week from something else.

The point is that this is just the shot across the bow. You can’t defend yourself against weather like the stuff that is coming. Food can also not defend itself from that stuff. You depend on food.

Fossil companies exist because of billions of consumers like you. Half of Earth’s population is alive thanks to nitrate fertilizer, made with natural gas. Industrial agriculture takes 10 fossil calories to produce one calory of food. And so on, and so forth.

No raindrop blames itself for the flood.

Some people demand a shitload more than others though. The average car burns 1 m³ of petrol each year. I burn none with my bike.

Then you have people who demand large meat portions in every single meal. I am quite happy to eat oats.

Some are raindrops, others are buckets. Then you have private jet owners… Heavy carbon taxes could help, or some kind of overall environmental harm calculation for it. If you actually care about the poor and don’t just want to use them to defend your own life of luxury, its pretty easy to subsidise or reduce rate for essentials that overall rich or poor buy in similar quantities anyway. Its luxuries that the rich buy a lot more of and the poor dying more from pollution.

Only if you count the animal torture industry in “the population”. More protein is spent keeping cows alive than humans.

It scares me how fast weather has changed. When I was a child we would routinely have snowfall before Halloween.

      Shit is fucked yo.

Also had the 3rd or 4th fastest hurricane on record to go from a tropical storm to cat5.
